I am taking my 2.5 yr old to Florida tomorrow for a week. We are going to the magic kingdom for a day but the rest of the time will be at the pool or shopping etc. my question is what to pack to entertain her? I have a leap pad and DVD player for the car but should I take toys or perhaps I should just pick something up there? Advice?
Also, how much would you pack in terms of clothes?
Re: Packing for trip
For the last few trips with DS, we've had a "prize" bag- a small bag with some wrapped, small toys (small trucks and cars, etch a sketch, sesame figures, board books, etc.). We would dole those out in the car when he started to get fussy. We also packed a few things for the hotel room (puzzles, coloring books, board books) that were thin and easy to keep in the suitcase. The ipad is also a total life saver (we load with Sesame episodes, peek a boo apps, Elmo apps, and reading rainbow).
As far as clothes, for 5 days, I'd pack 7-8 outfits (in case of accidents), 2 bathing suits, and 2 jammies plus swim shoes, hat, etc.
For the car, I usually bring the DVD player as a last resort, and start with books, coloring, stickers, and small interactive toys to entertain her. My mom has toys for the girls at her house, but if we're going some place that doesn't I do bring a few things to entertain them. A beach ball is easy since it deflates to pack and can be used for a bunch of different games, a couple dolls or a few pieces of dress up items will keep my girls entertained for a while and also don't take up much space. If we were going somewhere like Disney I would probably pick up something there, as well.
For clothes, I do one outfit for each day, plus 1-2 extra depending on how long we'll be gone. I also pack one outfit that is a little dressier for church or a nice dinner out, etc. For 5 days, I would probably do 3-4 PJ's. I always pack a few extra socks and double the undies I think we'll need for DD1, since she still has random accidents or spills.
