Bleeding after pap smear...

in 1st Trimester

I had one last Thursday and it really hurt. My doctor told me to expect bleeding for a few days. Yesterday, I tried to go to the bathroom (tmi, I'm really constipated).  I had light pink spotting.  Today, after vaccuming, it was really light brown. Would you be concerned?  I'm getting really nervous. Is a trip to the ER needed?  I can't help but think it is related to the test.

    ouch. I've only had one instance where I bled, and it was right after. But i was sore for a few days. it sounds perfectly normal.. maybe limit your hanky panky for a few days so you heal.

    Scary as it is, a trip to the ER isn't needed.  Brown is old blood which is probably left over from your exam.  If it turns red & heavy call your doctor.  They should always be your first point of contact because, smart as ER doctors are, their knowledge is widespread and OB issues aren't something they're usually well versed in enough to say more than "you should follow up with your doctor."

    With my last pregnancy, I bled about a week after my pap.  Since I'm rH-, they wanted me to come in and get a Rhogam injection (blah) just in case.  But it was most likely from the pap.  The brown is a good sign, too, because it's clearing out of your system.  Worrisome bleeding is normally heavy and bright red.  If you are still worried, you should call your doctor to see what they think, but I am sure they will tell you it's just fine.  Definitely wouldn't go to the ER at this point.  Good luck!
