Diaper pail?

I am unsure if I want a diaper pail or not. Nursery will be on main floor, I just don't know if I really need one. Give me your opinion on yay or nay.

Re: Diaper pail?

  • I would recommend it! We have a Diaper Champ and it does a pretty good job of containing the stink but without it, I can't even imagine how stinky it would be.

  • YAY! I have the munchkin diaper pail and I love it. They don't work well after the first 6 months because solids makes the poop smell too much but they really lock in odor for the first 6 months and the pee diapers after. I mean you need a place to put the diapers anyway and you don't want just a regular trash can with a lid cause it smells so bad everytime you open it. But if you can take the diaper outside to the trash every single then then you don't need one.

  • Nay. On the main floor? Just stick them in the outside garbage. No pail is ever 100% at containing the odor.
  • There are mixed reviews for every single diaper pail out there, but I love ours. We've have the Diaper Genie Elite. We've used it for the last year and never had an issue with odor.

  • It's going to be a personal choice whether you want to do without one or not but I know that I am very glad we got the Diaper Genie Elite.  It definitely contains the odor and allows for quick disposal of diapers.  I will be getting a second one for LO#2's room.

Love our diaper champ! Plus we use the plastic bags from the grocery store that your shopping comes in. So we don't need to buy the expensive special bags.

Same here. No odor problem. The trick with any diaper pail or regular trash can is to empty frequently. If you let a poop diaper sit for more than a day, of course it'll stink. I like having the diaper pail because it's compact and I don't have to waste a whole garbage bag if it's only half full and needs to go out. With the diaper genie, you only have to throw away the used portion. Works great.

Totally agree with this. We didn't even notice an odor to the diaper pail at all until DD was completely weaned off BM and eating more solids. I flush all of her solid poops in the toilet too so I'm sure that helps control the odor in the diaper pail. I have no complaints about the Diaper Genie Elite.

  • We have a stainless steel trash can in the kitchen and have just been putting diapers there.  We haven't had any smell issues so far, although we are starting solids so my view may change. In that case we will just put dirty diapers in the outside trash.

  • We don't have a diaper pail and don't miss it.  We just put the particularly stinky bags in a doggy trash bag first then tie it up and toss.

  • I got the Diaper Genie as a shower gift. I can't even remember if I had registered for it. Initially I remember thinking they weren't worth it and I'd just take the trash out everyday.  Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

I'm so glad I have the diaper pail!  Those diapers do get stinky.  DD is in daycare so we usually only put 2/day in the pail, and then after the weekend its full enough to take out to the trash.  I am 99% certain I would not be treking out every night in the dark after she goes to bed, or trying to remember that in the morning rush getting out the door.

Additional bonus if you have pets - they can't knock the trash over and take apart a dirty diaper.  I can only imagine the mess if my golden retriever could get in there...

  • We have the champ which takes normal trash bags. So far I'm glad we have it. Lo is 7 weeks old
