Well, I was planning o being a good mommy and waiting until he was 1 to introduce peanut butter. We were doing just fine until the other day. Our dog was stressed and not eating during the power outage. An empty stomach makes her throw up bile (sorry, TMI?). So, she got sick one day and I needed to get her to eat. She loves peanut butter, so I put some on her food.
Enter Escape-Artist-Benjamin who is figuring out all sorts of ways to escape the baby gates (video example here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/kristin1724/8164396492/ ). I normally pull up Molly's food and water when we have the gates open and leave it down when Ben is safely contained. Well, her food was down and he escaped. I was so busy laughing at his escapades it took me a second to realize I had her food down. He went straight for it and by the time I grabbed him, he was shoving a peanut butter covered hand into his mouth.
The good news: he's not allergic, he likes it, and pedi says since he has had it, keep letting him eat it. So, we had peanut butter and banana sandwiches for breakfast today.
Re: So..uh...peanut butter...
Well, that's one way to check for an allergy!
Happy to hear he isn't allergic to peanut butter ... this opens up a whole new world of menu possibilities!!
ETA: Love the video! I see you have Molly trained well ... she barely moved when Ben took off!

Asher has had peanut butter. Not a lot, but he's had a little bit on toast. His pedi said the only thing he cannot have before the age of 1 is honey. So he's had it a few times.
But ewwww Ben, don't eat dog food!

We had read this, too and talked to our pedi. They said that it is okay before one, but because the allergy can be severe that they advise waiting on peanut butter and shellfish. We figured it wasn't a big deal so were going to wait. Glad I don't have to worry about it now.
Shellfish may or may not have happened on DH's watch. He gave him a couple of bites off egg roll innards while out to eat with a friend (2 guys and their babies went out for chinese food!). A lot of egg rolls have shrimp in them! DH can't remember if these did or not. I'm thinking of calling the restaurant and asking.

First of all, that video is hilarious!!! I needed that laugh this morning.
About PB, well, Ryan is going to be a deprived child who rarely gets to eat it. DH is allergic so Ry can't have it in our house. I can't chance him getting it on his highchair and DH touching it, or just having residue on his hands and such. So, when he's older, he can have it as a treat when we're out I guess. I figure I'll just use almond butter and he won't know the difference since that's all he'll really get. Luckily since he's not biologically related to DH and I, we at least don't have to worry about the allergy being genetic!
First, that video is aweomesauce.
Second, Sophie has her 9-month appointment on Monday. I plan on asking about all kinds of foods now that she seems interested. If it's not too sugary or salty or contaminated with delicious, delicious honey, then I plan on letting her try it with the doc's OK.

Have you tried soynut butter? I love peanut butter, but it doesn't seem to agree with DS (nursing, and it makes him gassy) so I've switched to soynut butter, and I actually like it better! Just wondering if anyone else has tried it.
