Nanny Quit :(

Hi All, Our nanny gave her notice last week that she would be leaving us for another job (not nannying). She gave us 3 weeks notice which is great, and we have now hired a new nanny. The current nanny has been with us for 3 months (and in that time managed to use all of her vacation & sick days, then quit the day she returned from vacation - but that's another story). I had just returned to work after 2 years off with the kids, and the adjustment to the situation was very difficult on my daughter. She has grown very close to the nanny over the last few months, and I worry about how she'll adjust to the new one.

While I do think the transition will be easier (since she's only adjusting to a new person, and not mom leaving), I can't help but wonder how best to prepare her for this. Any suggestions on how to talk to her about it, or tips/tricks to adjusting to the new nanny (who, FWIW, seems more qualified and more "fun" than the current nanny) ... Thanks in advance!

Re: Nanny Quit :(

  • I'm a teacher and because of summers we have had a couple of different nannies.  I just explain that so and so helped us for a little while, but now she is going to... help another family, going to try something new...whatever the situation is and that so and so is going to help us now.  My daughter (will be 4 on the 20th) has never had a problem adusting.  She will ask about the other person every once in a great while, but it is very similar to a "you remember that time..." scenerio.
