Now we hate the car?

He used to love the car, it would put him right to sleep. Now, 8/10 times he will be SCREAMING by the time we get anywhere. I always make sure he is full before we go...he just seems to feel abandoned back there because he will calm down as soon as I take him out. He is also fine if anyone is in the back with him. Not sure what to do about this when we are alone...any tricks that work??

Have you tried a mirror? We installed one so that when were driving we can still see DS and he loves it as well. He just stares and smiles at his reflection until he falls asleep.

i have one on the rear windshield I can see him in...not sure if he can see himself?

Radio and or talking help em. She hated being RF so as unpopular as this is I turned her at a year it was safer for us for her not be being screaming and making me distracted. But she was 25 pounds and 30 inches tall at that point.

This happened with K as well. It was all of the sudden after never having problems before. I just think he gets bored facing the seat. The mirror helps, and so do toys that clip to the car seat, that way they dont fall.

M would freak, still does, when the sun or street lights were in his eyes. Check for that, it's fairly easy to fix. It took me too long to figure that out.

Sorry--DD was like this until about 4m. Sounds crazy but something that worked was me shaking the crap out of a rattle. I think it was like white noise or something. I probably looked like a crazy person to others, but hey, my baby stopped crying

My DD was like this for a long time, a year or 18 mos. sorry. I pulled over in many places to nurse! Now she's fine, but it was heart wrenching for a while. Car rides with just the two of us were tough! Good luck? I hope with your DS it's a short phase!

Ugh. I agree about the mirror and white noise. Find a point on the radio that's not a station so it's playing continuous white noise. Keep turning it louder until he calms. It's the same concept as ssshing ala Happiest Baby on the Block. Singing/talking to him also helped.

I don't allow most carseat toys b/c of the risk of them in an accident And mirror is a def. nogo in my car, but I do have a soft fabric 'book' that my mom made that is DD's carseat toy. This and her wubanub pacifier help. As does putting white noise back there with her or that did help, anyway; she's outgrown it now.

The mirror we have in our car is nonbreakable. Its made from plexi glass or some form of plastic so you don't have to worry about it shattering in a car accident etc.

White noise usually settles down DD when we are in the car.
