So, I've been dilated to a 4 for about a week (3 the week before that, 2 the week before that)...which I know doesn't necessarily mean anything, but I'd been told by my OB to err on the side of caution since my entire labor and delivery with DD #1 was 4 hours.
I've been having contractions for weeks, but they'd be 4 mins apart, 1 minute long for about an hour, and then just as we'd start thinking about calling, they'd stop completely. Last night, they went from 8mins apart, to 6, and then to 4 mins apart over the course of several hours... and didn't seem to let up regardless of whether I was sitting/laying/walking. Eventually we called, and L&D said to come on in.
I went in, they checked me, and I was dilated to a full 5, easily stretched to a 6, and more than 50% effaced. They started monitoring contractions, which were going right along....until they just randomly stopped.
So, they told me to walk for an hour, and see how things were going. We did, and by the end of the hour, the contractions were 2-4 minutes apart, and I was leaning on DH and swaying to get through them. They checked me, and there was no change in dilation. And then the contractions spaced way out again...so they decided that I'm not in active labor, and sent me home.
Now I'm trying to decide whether to put on a movie for DD and rest this morning, or head to the mall and get walking, and hope that contractions will get going and KEEP going.
I'm still having contractions at home, and still having to breathe
through them, but they're not really getting closer together. I'm tired.
I'm sore from head to toe. And terrified about how quickly things are
going to go once they DO kick into "active labor". Bleh. Just had to vent a little...because this sucks.
Re: Dilated to 6, not in Active Labor. Bleh.
LAME!! That baby is going to fall out at any minute I just know it! j/k!!
It certianly sounds like you could start in active labor at any moment. I would be just as impatient as you. Hang in there mama!
'Til He returns, or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I stand.
DH works down the street, so it wouldn't take him long. We're maybe 5-10 mins from the hospital. If I headed into the mall to walk, I'd be closer to the hospital, further from DH...but I'm honestly this is not really something I'm worried about...I'm going to go into labor at some point whether or not I do anything to promote it, and won't have any control over whether DH is around or not.

Good luck! Sounds like we will be hearing a birth story in the near future!
This! The last few days are a total mind fcuk!
I had the same thing happen with Ds and had a quick labor too. I would sit my bum on the couch (on top of plastic bags and towels of course, just in case your water breaks!!) and relax. You will eventually go into labor on your own and you need to be well rested! GL mama

I vote for walking. Do you have to go to the mall? Can you just walk where you live? I'm assuming you can't because you mentioned the mall for a reason. As long as you have gotten good rest recently I vote for walking. Good Luck!
