Baby's Bad Breath

My DD is 11.5 months old and the past 2 days I've noticed a "different" smell from her mouth.  I wouldn't call it "bad breath" but it isn't her usual smell from her mouth. I don't know what could be causing this all of a sudden but wondered if anyone else has experienced this?

Re: Baby's Bad Breath

  • Do you wipe their gums/brush their teeth?

  • She has not one tooth yet! Can you believe it? Almost a year old and not one tooth.  I do wipe her gums, I'm just going to bring her in to be sure there is no bacteria or infection causing this.
  • I have noticed this recently also.  Not bad, just different.  I didn't think too much about it.  I just thought it was from new foods he was trying??

It could be, and I'm just being paranoid about it. I will wait a few more days and if it persists I will call the Dr.

  • always happens to my kids when sickness brewing. Even a cold coming on.
  • I get paranoid too. Last week DS suddenly started touching his ears, almost pulling on them. I was worried it was an ear infection. Luckily we had an appt the next day for a flu shot so the dr checked him out then and everything was fine, just discovered his ears. I didn't ask about his breath then, but he did check him out to make sure he didn't have a virus or something. I always feel its just better to call so I can have piece of mind.
  • My co-worker and I just had a conversation about this topic this morning.  She said her daughter has to do pro-biotic pills (?) to keep the "poop breath" at bay.  Apparently it is something to do with when she is sick and the antibiotics.

  • Lo gets it with new teeth
  • My daughter had this problem which was due to her adenoids and tonsils.
  • My first thought was maybe she's getting sick. My ds hasn't had this but I know when I get sick the taste in my mouth changes.  I would see the doc just in case.
