Piercing ears and correcting birth certificate

Has anyone had their daughters ears pierced?  I know some people chose not to, but for us, it's a cultural thing and I am hoping to get it in the next couple of weeks.

Also, my daughter's birth certificate is all sorts of wrong- the time of birth, the attending doctor and her weight.  I've called and left messages at Vital Statistics.  Was anyone else's certificate wrong? Was it a huge hassle to fix?

Thanks!

  • I would ask your doctor to do the piercing.  If you to a mall place, the guns they use are too big for babies.

  • We took Claire when she was 1 year old to Piercing Pagoda at the mall and they did a great job.

No idea about the birth certificate.  I still haven't ordered Claire's yet.  Opps!

  • Ok, I'll keep harassing them. It's frustrating because there is a note on the certificate that they "corrected" the information that is wrong.  Ugh.

My pedi says they'll do for $100 at 9 months.  My friend's pedi at MGH in Boston wont do it after 6 months because she says the babies will pull at them.  She also charges $30.  It seems so arbitrary!  I wanted to get them done this month, in time for her baptism next month.  Thanks!

  • Kev-like you I tried to go route of pedi's office to get my daughter's ears pierced even tried to find a professional piercing/tattoo place that would do it and in the end I  packed my baby girl up and went to the mall and it was FINE! At least in my experience. I know, I know I worried about the gun and having a teenager pierce my  baby's ears but you know what-often the employees at the mall have more experience than the folks at doc office (what doctor's office told me) and use the same gun (again what I was told) so if you are looking to do sooner rather than later I say go to the mall. We had no problems just be really good about cleaning and twisting earrings. I know it's controversial but in my family it's just what we DO! And I know I'm biased but I think it looks adorable. My little girl was close to five months maybe it was 4 1/2 and I heard opposite that it's better to pierce them when they are younger so they don't pull at them.  Good luck! And do you have baptism gown yet? Curious where you found that's on my list of things to do.
