Birthing Classes

Hi!

We're looking for a good birthing class series to go to here in the Seattle area. Both of us live in the Seattle area but will be moving to the eastside in the Spring. We're due in June so no rush at the moment. But I'm a planner and would like to be registered and have this stuff set up for the future. One less thing to worry about later. lol 

Any recommendations? Places I should NOT go? Suggestions? Classes or resources you found helpful? 

I am a full time nanny and have had more than enough exposure to babies, kids, etc. lol But things like childbirth, nursing, and bringing home my own newborn are definitely going to be new to me!

    I took Penny Simkin's out of hospital birth class which is awesome if that is the kind of birth you are planning. Highly recommend her, but it's pricey and time consuming.

    Think about your goal. Do you want to learn what to expect, practice hands on skills, and or meet other new parents? If making connections is one of your goals, pick a 4 week series. If you want an unmediated birth, choose a longer series with more practice like a Lamaze, Bradley, or Birthing from Within series. If you just want an overview of the standard procedures for your hospital birth, take a 12 day hospital class.

    Regardless of what you choose, you can take specific classes on Breastfeeding or Newborn Care through Great Starts. I took the breastfeeding one and it was really helpful.

    Good luck making a choice.

    My Husband and I took classes through Swedish in Downtown Seattle.

    We did not have our baby there, but they have absolutely no problem with you taking the classes that they offer. We found them really informative and a huge benefit. I have spent years around children, but we still took the class about caring for your newborn. I was really glad that we did - the information was so useful!
