My daughter contracted this virus (I think from Daycare) when she was barely 1. Her primary outbreak was horrible. After months and months of them reoccuring, her Pedi put her on Acyclovir daily for suppression therapy. It's been over a year now that she's been on the drug and we aren't seeing any improvement. We are actually taking her to an Infectious Disease doctor for the 2nd time to see what next step we can take. I've tried everything to help suppress this only to run into a dead end. I've given her Lysine, tried all kinds of lip treatments, like Nexcare, Little Lips Lysine + and even upped her Vitamin C intake in hopes to boost her immunity. We've run a blood panel to check her white blood cells which were elevated due to her having an active outbreak at the time of the tests. Pedi assured me that is completely normal as her body is trying to fight the virus. She was exposed at such a young age and hasn't built the antibodies to ward off the virus as most of us do. FYI: 90% of us carry this virus but only a portion show signs/symptoms. My husband, nor I, have ever had a cold sore. I am just wondering if anyone else out there has experienced this with their LO's. Thanks.
