Interesting afternoon

Went into the "big" city (all of pop. 23,000) near me this afternoon to go consignment store shopping with a friend while her car was being worked on.

On the way there, the only road through the center of town, the road the store/garage is on, is closed. Go around. That way is majorly congested. Finally get to the store. She is late because of the stuff too. Sit there and wait for her. No biggie.

She tells me that it wasn't road work but someone drew a gun at the grocery store. The one I was suppose to go to but was running late. So the cops evacuated the store and parking lot and closed the road down.

We don't need to to that way to go shopping so get her son and his car seat all situated. Go to start the van. It won't start. The battery has been dying since July. I was hoping to make it to at least Friday if not next Friday before I had to get a new one. Not gonna happen.

The store people jump my car for me. Gave me a quote of $150 for the battery installed. Well, I know I can get a battery for $80-90 at Walmart so just decide to go there later. I'm sure I can figure out how to install a battery. Then I remembered that I have a friend that told me to call him if I needed anything while DH is out of town. Give him a call. He says he can install it for me no problem.

Finish with the friend I was with. Go get the battery. Head over to my other friend's house. His wife was at the grocery store when the cops had to evacuate. Thank God she is safe. Guess the guy had stolen a purse at the Walmart, drove over to the grocery store, then was in his car threatening suicide.

Stayed at my friends' for awhile. The wife fed me. :) Their little girl is 20 days older than DD so the two of them played for awhile and the 3 yo tried to play but he is just too rough. lol. Wife had to go met up with the girls so I hung out for a little while longer (DH and I went to college with him, know her through him so he is the friend really) helping him with the kids and chatting. Was nice to have some normalcy.

All in all, ended up a pretty good evening. Strange afternoon but nice to get out and see some people. I had planned on calling the wife tomorrow to see if she wanted to hang out soon. Will probably go over there again next week. They are the kind you can just show up and help clean or with the kids and it is like you are all just one family.

    I know!

A couple years ago I was late leaving work. So annoyed. Then got stuck in massive traffic where there is never traffic. Come to find out, there was a massive car accident. Had I been able to leave work on time, I would have been in it.

  • As I was reading the part about the guy drawing the gun I kept thinking, I am surprised Walmart has nothing to do with this. As I read further you said he took a purse from Walmart. I was like, WOW I feel psychic.

Glad to hear everyone and everything is okay! Hope you don't have anymore days like this anytime soon!
