Thank God for "what" baby gear/item/toy/thingy? What baby item(s) has/have saved your butt on more than one occasion? Was it surprising how well it worked? Where did you learn about this fantastic item?
Rock'n Play Sleeper - we STILL use it on occasion. If he's congested, it's the only way he'll sleep. When he wants to cuddle all night long, it's the only way he will sleep. When he was little, it was the only way he would sleep at night. I love it and feel the need to buy it in ever color, though that would be silly (so I will not). I was quite skeptical about the awesomeness, but more and more bumpies convinced me. I am not disappointed.
Fisher Price Glowing Seahorse - We have the glow worm (which we do still love), but it only plays for about 14 seconds. It's great for midnight diaper changes to keep him from crying, but it doesn't do squat to make him fall back asleep at night. The seahorse - also suggested by bumpies - plays significantly longer, which gives him more time to settle back down and fall asleep.
Jumparoo - How would I get anything done around the house without this amazing invention? I noticed how much he loved jumping and scored one at our Once Upon a Child. I want one for every room in the house so I can get more work done (but again, I will not actually buy them).
Awesome... I just typed this whole thing, and its gone. :-(
Let's try this again :-)
Thank God for the Miracle Blanket. I was a total skeptic, and we dubbed it the "straight jacket" in our house. But once LO was too long for regular swaddle blankets this was a life saver! Baby girl started sleeping 8-11 hour stretches just like that!
Sofie the "dog toy". Initially this thing smelled like a dog toy, and I wasn't so into it. I am not one to buy into things, and into toys as expensive as this one, but it has been a huge lifesaver! It keeps LO occupied when we are eating out, and it has made her toothless mouth very happy! We even picked up a second one, for swap outs, when Sofie 1's squeaker gets wet.
Jumperoo! I second you Steel... It helps me get stuff done, and helps to get her engergy out when she has a spring in her butt! I teach from home, and when she is up, and I'm in class, her Baby Einstein Jumperoo keeps her occupied, moving and very happy! I do love our Jumper!
Wagon Wheels :-) They let Mommy and Daddy eat their meals in peace

TB has eaten several of my responses today, too, and many times won't let me respond to a post. I'm still a little skeptical about Sophie, but after watching DS chew on his glow worm's face and hearing it squeak (just from his mouth on the rubbery face) made me think it might be a worthwhile investment.
1. His exersaucer. He practically gives himself whiplash bouncing in it. I sold his swing at Once Upon a Child and got the exersaucer for just a dollar more than what I got. Best trade ever!
2. This lamb we got as a shower gift. I recorded myself singing and it's become his cuddle toy for the crib. It's so soft and squishy.
1. The snugabunny swing. It was a lifesaver the first few months. It was the only thing that he would sleep in, so it was a fixture in our bedroom. It was the only major item we bought brand new and it was well worth it. I am so sad that he has essentially outgrown it.
2. The jumperoo. He loves that thing. He even tries to jump when we are just holding him standing up. He is so happy in it, and his favorite toy on it is a dinky teether thing. He's a simple man.
3. Dr, Brown bottles would be the number 1 best thing we discovered. He had to be put on Similac Sensitive before he left the hospital, and then he developed reflux. We used Playtex Ventair bottles and it would take him forever to eat and then he would be fussy. He rarely slept more then 2 hours at a time. My mom bought him the Dr. Brown bottles just to give it a try, and the first time we used them he slept for 4 hours straight that night. I felt like a new woman. His eating and sleeping got so much better after starting these, and I finally felt like I could handle being a parent. This is by far that best baby thing we got.

Soothie pacifier helps her settle if she is fussy and in the MOTN she will take it and go right back to sleep...usually. The hospital used it and I kept with it.
Pack n play: we ended up keeping it in our living room and still do. We change her in there and it saves us a trip to her room. We're lazy.
Happiest baby on the block DVD saved me. L still reacts well to shushing, thank God for it! I think I heard about it on TB.
Edit- my glider! How could I forget. I almost didn't get one but so glad I did. L loves to be rocked.

Okay, what's with TB error messages today?
We gave in and got a Sophie after LO rejected every other teether and he loves it! He's not so big into chewing on it, but he likes to slam it around. I think the chewing will come when his gums start to hurt more.
Has anyone tried the Chan Pie Gnon (alien-looking thingy)? It's made by the same company as Sophie, but obviously isn't a giraffe. I'm intrigued by it after all the positive Sophie feedback.
I agree with everything you guys have said! I am grateful for my mom who got us all his play stuff (exersaucer, swings, jumperoo) from thrift shops or consignment sales.
But I am most thankful for CEILING FANS!!!! Joshua can stare at them for hours. We have one in our bedroom and he watches that while I get dressed in the morning. I know soon enough he will get bored, but for right now, it's a godsend!

DS is totally into fans too!! And, I also second the exersauser.
But, the thing that really gets DS calmed down if he's fussy is The Foot Book by Dr. Seuss. He LOVES it for some reason.
Along the way we've fallen in love with a few things...
Rock N Play I was skeptical but a friend convinced me to try it. I made sure I could return it if it didn't work out. Omg...it truly is the best thing since sliced bread! We still use it for occasional naps. I'll be sad when she outgrows it.
The bathroom fan We discovered it during one of those horrid colic filled nights. I remembered reading somewhere that inside the womb is as loud as a vaccuum cleaner. I figured it was worth a try. In about 2 min she was asleep. Ever since then we use it all the time. We also use a white noise machine or a cd of white noise for all sleeping. Right now, she's sleeping in her RNP in the bathroom with the fan on. She'll easily sleep for hours in there.
Kick N Play Piano She loves it! I heard about it here and saw it at my favorite consignment shop. I had to have it. She loves it.
Lamaze Mortimore the Moose He's a great distractor for the car. He crinkles, jingles, and squeeks. He's the toy that makes her light up.

i had to come out of lurkdom for this because it made me lol. Sophie is made by a French company and the "alien" looking thing is a mushroom called "champignon" (pronounced "Shaum-pin-yaun") which is French for mushroom.
