Okay, so although I have lived in Canada since before I was 4 years old, I was born in the US (Minneapolis, for those who care). It has never occurred to me before, but does that mean I could be voting in US elections? I don't know the rules on this stuff. Clearly I'm not a US resident, and I don't have an American passport or anything. But I am a citizen since I was born there.

Ah, good point. No, I have done absolutely nothing related to my US citizenship since I became a Canadian citizen at age 10. I hadn't thought about that aspect.

This. I have dual citizenship and I find myself in the opposite boat because we're thinking of moving to Canada but after coming to Japan 12 years ago I only ever filed taxes for the U.S. I'm afraid they're going to hit me with back taxes if I try to go back.
FIL has dual US/Israeli citizenship and he votes.
