Re: Bedtime

  • We start our bedtime routine at about 8pm. I also have a friend with a 14 month old who goes to bed that early. I really don't want that as it would be restrictive in the evenings to have to be home that early. Mine sleeps 9-9.5 hours, and seems pretty content to stay there. We'll see what happens in the future.

  • I think it depends on the child. We get home from DC around 6, she naps and then normally we start the routine around 8. But I follow her sleep cues and sometimes her evening nap is real long and she doesn't end up in bed until later. Do what works for LO. I don't think L could go to bed for the night at 6:30.

  • We let DD tell us when she is tired, I wish we had a bed time where she was in bed every night but lett her tell us work for us. It is usually around 7:00pm and we get her up at 6:30am.

  • I think it depends on the baby and on how early your LO wakes up already.  But, it is also true that the more sleep, the better for babies this young.

LO is exhausted by daycare and starts rubbing his eyes at 6:45. We feed him at 7 and he goes to sleep really easily at 7:30.  He sleeps until about 6, 6:30 if we are lucky.  So, 10 1/2-11 hours a night.

It would admittedly be nice for us adults if he went to bed a little later so we could do things in the evening...but it's also nice to have him down for the night so that we an have "us" time for a little while before we fall into bed, exhausted ourselves.

You can certainly start slowly pushing his bedtime earlier to see if he will fall asleep easily at an earlier time.  When we changed schedules, it was about 15 minutes a night.

I do know this: putting him to bed earlier will not cause him to get up earlier (and putting him to bed later won't cause him to get up later)--sleep begets sleep. Good luck!

  • She has been letting us know she is tired lately around 6-7PM. I just go for it and she is out. Although she still sleeps in bed with us. This weekend coming we are going to re-attempt to put her in the crib.

  • It depends on when his last cat nap is. If he doesn't get a nap in before we get him from daycare, he'll fight for sleep at 6/6:30 (after being up since 3). If he catches a quick catnap, he can make it to 7/7:30, which works perfectly for our schedule. It gives me an hour before my bedtime to get ready for the next day. He's up at 5:30/5:45 on weekdays.

  • Trust me, your schedule is better. DD goes to bed at 7:30 and I hate that we have to be home by then all the time. It also limits her time with daddy after work, but that is when she crashes, so we have no choice. Sometimes, it's as early as 6:30. We basically have to be home by 6 to avoid complete meltdowns. I can't wait until she goes to bed more like 8:30 or 9 and we can sleep later too. We usually get up by 5:45 or 6.

  • My LO goes to sleep "late" too.  If it's a bath night we usually start around 8:30 and she is in her crib by 9.  If she is getting really cranky, we'll start the routine earlier but most times she's pretty happy until bedtime.  Then, she sleeps until 8 or 9 in the morning.  I think I was blessed with an excellent sleeper.

  • DD doesn't sleep after 2 or 3pm and is miserable by 6! We try to stretch it out, but she's always asleep by 6:30. I wouldn't mind her staying up until 7pm, but with no afternoon nap, she is just cranky! We also found that when she stays up until 7 or 7:30, she wakes up an hour earlier! It's happened the last 3x she stayed up late. If she goes to bed at 6:30, she's up around 6am.

  • DD's bedtime routine starts sometime between 6:15 and 6:45 depending on how she napped that day.  Occasionally we won't start until 7 if the evening was particularly crazy.  She sleeps until 6:30 or 7 but does wake up at least once.

When DS was this age, his bedtime routine started at 7 and he was asleep by 7:20 or so.  It's now moved to starting at 7 and in bed by 8.  Neither of them has gone to bed past 8 since they were really little (like 3 months old).  I prefer pushing an earlier bedtime, even if it means a 6:30 wake-up time.

  • between 8 and 9. I prefer a late bedtime because I work FT and I don't pick her up until 545 so I want a few hours with her. She has been having a catnap on the way home from daycare, I usually let her sleep a half an hour then wake her, then she is good to stay up til at least 8.

I wake her at 630 to BF her before I leave the house, and she used to go back to sleep until 730 or 8 but now that its so bright out at that time she hasn't been going back to sleep this week! Poor hubby Big Smile

  • Bedtime was between 8-9pm up until about 5.5months. I could see signs of him getting tired earlier, so bedtime is 7-7:30. If 8:30 is working for your family then keep it.
