Singulair? Asthma related

Does anyone have experience with this medication? My DS has been diagnosed with asthma, virus-induced.  He has been sick to the point of an ER trip twice.  The doctors want him on some kind of preventative medicine.  Pulmacort and Flovent were both disastrous, as he had major behavioral/mood side effects.  Just miserable.  Now his new pulmanologist wants to try singulair...but I'm a nervous wreck.  I've read some horror stories, and with his history of sensitivity....to say I'm frustrated is mild.  Any thoughts?

    Singulair was awful for us.  My DD turned into a monster.  It was really, really bad.  We do Flovent and flonase for her seasonal allergy-induced asthma.

    DS2 is an oddball and doesn't respond to most of the common meds.  I would try it and see what happens.  Worst case, you have to stop.  Better then ER trips.  I have found that the baby center board for asthma and allergies to be really helpful since it is all about this stuff.

    I've been on it for years although I was much older when I started taking it. My nephew started taking it fairly young and has had good luck with it

    Singulair is what I've taken for my asthma for over 12 years. When DD1 started showing the same symptoms, we put her on it too. Hers is exercised induced and allergy related just like mine. I've noticed some improvement. She doesn't cough and clear her throat as much in the morning. She does still need an albuterol inhaler before running and swimming, but I think she tolerates allergens better now. We've had no negative side effects from the medication. She was 6 yo when we started it.
