Toddlers: 24 Months+

Anyone's 2.5 yr old still super picky with food?

My LO is still a SUPER picky eater.  His diet consists of a protein shake that I make him in the morning.  Pretty much other than that, he only will now eat (and he wont eat this stuff every time) carrots, cherry tomatoes, cheerios, bananas, goldfish, cereal bars and the Earths Best yogurt pouches.  No meat or any other type of protein what so ever.  I have tried everything and nothing.   No, Pizza, mac n cheese, spaghetti, rice, bread, chicken nuggets, beans, avocado, tofu.   Im at a loss as to what to feed him.  I just worry he is so stinking skinny.  Just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat with their toddler.  And any advice would be greatly appreciated.  :)

  • I am. My DD will not eat meat at all. It is so bad that she is anemic now. Her pedi has put her on iron drops. 4ml per day. I dont know what to do either. I have got to try protein shakes. What do you use and how do you make them?

  • Those sounds like great food choices for him! Atleast he is getting some fruit and veggies. My little guy will not tough any vegetable... even mashed up with cheese on top. He prefers only chicken and cheese with an occasional applesauce and all grain products... kinda like his mother. Wink

Our pediatrition said to keep offering new foods all the time and eventually he will try them (ha!). As long as your ped is not concerned, I think it is fine. I have friends with toddlers who live off Ritz crackers and milk. If only we could be so picky and remain skinny as adults!

  • i wish my son ate like this.  Like pp said, at least he's getting some fruit and veggies.

Just curious.. when did you start giving him a protein shake? my doc said to avoid them.  Which powder do you use?

Have you tried peanut butter / almond butter / sunbutter? all of these have protein.  you can have him dip the carrots into the butter

My son started skipping breakfast recently b/c the only thing he wants is pasta/butter. For lunch he has pasta/butter and for dinner he wants pasta/butter but i manage to get him to eat a few home made fries and sometimes toast with sunbutter and jelly.   He use to eat so good! one entire avocado a day...  He does have food allergies, but he still has many many options for food and just chooses not to eat.  I tried smoothies, but he's scared of them
