I've been on Zofran for a little more than two weeks. My doctor first gave it to me when I was 10 weeks, 5 days and couldn't stand the overwhelming nausea anymore. Now I'm nearly 13 weeks and wondering whether I should wean myself gradually, or go cold turkey. And yes, I realize I should probably just call and ask.
I haven't had a pill since this morning and have had a headache all day. Any chance that could be related? I know Zofran itself can cause headaches, but could withdrawal cause it? And is 13 weeks too soon to test the waters and see if I'm past the nausea?
Re: Weaning off Zofran
How often were you taking it? 1-2x a day then I would try cold turkey. Zofran does cause headaches. You don't really have to wean off. However, if you are feeling better it may be because you are taking it on a regular basis.
I found that with my first pregnancy, I had to take it 3-4x a day until 14wks and then 1x a day until 26weeks to control the n/v. After 26wks I quit taking it. Right now I am taking it 1-2x a day.

My first pregnancy I had hyperemsis and I had to take Zofran the whole time. Just missing one pill would land me in the hospital. This time around I have a few bottles of it but I only take it as needed. I took one today and it was my first in a little over a week. Do what feels right.

This isn't really advice, just me telling you my experience with Zofran so far.
I've been taking it since I've been 9 weeks. This Sunday I didn't take one in the morning like I usually do. I was throwing up every time I put something in my stomach. I was awful and I had to take one again to finally be able to eat. I really want to stop taking it, but I'm afraid to have a repeat of Sunday.
I am able to manage with one a day, but cold turkey is not in the cards for me yet. Also I totally get headaches once they wear off.
My doctor said it gets out of your system pretty quickly, which I've noticed to be true for me. I take half a pill every 12 hours or as needed and I can definitely tell when it's needed. I would just hold off until you feel nauseous again. Maybe you'll be able to go longer periods. But take it as soon as you start to feel sick so it has time to work.
Are you taking anything else for the nausea? Try taking half a unisom at bedtime. That's what finally got me off the zofran during my last pregnancy. I was 17 weeks though. Hopefully it doesn't take me that long this time.
