What is the best type of cheese to give as a snack? how do you serve it? Also, can LO have 'crackers?' I give her the gerber cookies, but I am wondering about crackers...or what kind of crackers. She just turned one. Looking for snack options!!
DD2 eats anything and everything. For crackers, I typically buy graham crackers or whole wheat Ritz crackers, but she's had saltines, too. Cheese - sometimes it's cheddar cut up into little bites or sliced and she bites off what she wants. Sometimes it's string cheese that I pull apart into manageable pieces for her, sometimes I cut up a stick of colby jack. She also likes it shredded, but that gets pretty messy.

My DS is a bit older than your LO, but I do give him cheese and crackers. For cheese, he eats string cheese, block cheese cut up into small pieces, or shredded cheese. I give him crackers too usually saltines, whole wheat ritz, whole grain wheat thins, or usually whatever is on sale. He likes them all.
I think shredded cheese is easiest. He's had sliced cheese (like the Kraft singles or deli cheese), string cheese (I cut them into thin circles and then halve those), and shredded cheese. He's had bits of cracker with my mom, but I typically don't have crackers in the house. He loves golfish crackers, though.

DD LOVES cheese and crackers. I buy string cheese and slice it for her. For crackers, we do the Ritz Munch-Ems (they are small and softer) or whole wheat Ritz.
My son loves cheese. Right now, he's eating monterey jack in small pieces. For crackers, I buy Aldi brand triscuit-like crackers. They are whole wheat and only have 3 ingredients: whole wheat, olive oil, and a little salt. So many crackers don't offer much in terms of nutrition--just empty calories and a lot of salt. These are the healthiest I've seen and DS usually likes them.
I don't know that there's a "best" type of cheese... are you talking in terms of nutritional value or ease of eating or how it's produced or what?
I'm not in the habit of buying separate "kid" food, so the cheeses my daughter has tried are ones mom likes. :-) Harder cheeses like swiss & cheddar might be a little difficult without many teeth, but softer cheeses like muenster, havarti, brie, ricotta, and fresh mozzarella will be easier to eat and are also quite mild in taste. She spit out blue cheese and feta which doesn't suprise me since the flavor is quite strong, but I'll re-offer them from time to time. I'm not a huge fan of crackers and other processed snacks so if I offer cheese it's usually just by itself cut into cubes or thin slices. If your daughter hasn't shown any sensitivity to cow's milk or other dairy products she should be fine with cheeses too.
At that age, I gave him mostly shredded cheese or "sticks" of sliced cheese (basically sliced and then I cut them again into sticks so they were easier for him to hold - cut about 1/4" thick by 1/4" wide by 1-2" long). He also loved cheese crumbles, but they're not the easiest thing to find in stores here. He loves sharp cheddar (especially sharp white cheddar), colby and mozzarella. Or really, any cheese that is similar to those in flavor. I just give him some of whatever we have. DS also had no eating issues, so crackers were great at that age. We'd been giving them to him for quite a while by then.

Squeaker born 7/30.
We also do mini baby bell cheeses in addition to all the other suggestions....and any and all crackers...and goldfish...and biscottis....apple "chips", or freeze dried apple slices....thin rice cakes....just a handful of some of the snacks we eat!
I get my DD a bag of cheese nuggets. They are smaller than cheese cubes which is a perfect size for her. She loves them! I give DD graham crackers all the time.
We only eat all natural food, so we usually buy Annie's Homegrown crackers. We also use saltines sometimes. For cheese, we give her anything soft like mozzarella.
DS loves cheese. I started with shredded cheddar when he was 7 or 8 months old. That was hard for him to grab so I quickly switched to cutting up string cheeses for him. Kraft has a yummy one that is tomato basil flavored, but I do regular ones too.
Just this week I got him a log of brie cheese, which he loves!

I give him mostly non-processed cheeses. Trader Joe's has a good variety/prices. Otherwise from anywhere. String cheese although touted for kids is totally processed & while I might give it to him when he's older b/c it looks fun, he can't appreciate it now so I don't give it to him now. I don't want him having a little kids palate where all he can eat is processed foods.
i've been giving my son really soft cheeses -- brie, goat, gourmandise, etc. so far the only cheese he hasn't seemed to dig is feta, but it was just once and he may not have been super hungry. he's also had some random shredded cheese. i'll prob try mozzerella next. i haven't wanted to do harder cheeses cause i'm still a paranoid first time mom, but he'll be a year in a few weeks and i need to branch out more.
haven't given him crackers yet (see above) and occasionally smear some brie on bread, but mostly he has little pieces of cheese plain.
So, like a block of kraft cheddar cheese is better than the sliced individually wrapped cheese that you buy in a pack of 25 or so, right?
Yes! Please dont feed your baby kraft singles, yuck. For the record, kraft singles arent real cheese. There are goverment standards for defining cheese. Thats why kraft must name them "cheese product". It's also why they must spell cheez whiz with a z, its not real cheese either.
I feed my kid either chedder/marble cut up into little cubes, or black diamond cheese strings ripped up into hunks

Nutritionally, sure. But I've given my kids Kraft singles, too, for snacks or used them in grilled cheese.

My child has yet to meet a cheese he doesn't like.
For snacks we do a lot of mozzarella sticks, or squares of cheddar, monterey jack, colby jack, swiss, etc.
For crackers I use ritz, triscuits, or wheat thins (all low-salt)
