Daycare Dropoff with 2u2 Logistics?

My 2 kids will be starting daycare next week and I'm not worried at all about the transition.  But I am wondering how I will manage to get both kids and their stuff in in the morning.  DD is 2 and can walk herself but DS is 8 months and needs to be carried, plus I have to bring their lunches/bottles, and on Mondays I'll need to bring in clean blankets/nap mats.  I'm just wondering how other moms manage (grow a third arm?).  Which kid do you drop off first?

Re: Daycare Dropoff with 2u2 Logistics?

  • We do it two ways - DH has a double umbrellas stroller in his trunk and he takes the girls in that way with the bag hung over the stroller.

I use a baby carrier backpack and put one girl in the backpack and hold the other one.  Somehow I hook a bag over my shoulder.

I don't take my purse or anything else in with me and rarely lock my car.  Daycare drop off would be a really good time to rob me :)

  • Mine are 8 months and 3 years, so a little different.  I wear DS in the Ergo and let DD walk in.  I try to get DD to carry her own little backpack but the truth is that this is usually a fail.  It all works out OK this way, though.

I usually let DD decide if she wants to go to her classroom first or drop off the baby first.  She'll change her mind from time to time and it doesn't matter much to me either way.  If I didn't have the Ergo I'd drop off the baby first because he's heavy and has lots of stuff.  :)

  • When both of mine were in daycare, I dropped the baby off first - it was easier than carrying the baby to the other class.  If I had to, I'd drop baby off, then big brother and his stuff off, then go back to take baby's stuff to his room.

  • I used one bag to carry in the weeks supplies. DD1 would walk and DD2 in my arms or infant car seat. I would drop off DD1 1st b/c no shoes allowed on the infant room. It was easier to drop off then take off DD's shoes. At pick up, I go to the infant room 1st. The front desk staff is always willing to watch the baby while I pick up big sis. They would even carry one of the children to my car. Huge help! As DD1 grew older she preferred I drop off sis 1st and she would stand at the door.

  • I get my older son out of the car first, then we walk around to the other side.  I have bottle bag and whatever else I need on the baby's side.  DS1 has to stand touching the car while I get baby out.  I use a huge handled bag to carry nap mat, diapers, wipes, etc.  Then I carry the carrier in the crook of my arm, bag in that hand, and hold DS1's hand with my other hand while we walk in.

We drop DS2 off first in the infant room, and then I can spend a minute or two with DS1 in his room before I leave.

  • I used a stroller and packed a bag for my twins.  Only dropped off in one room though.

My sister always left her car unlocked while dropping her daughter off at DC. A month or two ago someone stole her purse and IPad in the those few minutes she was gone. Lock up that car ladies!

  • For drop off, dh 90% of time does it. He has always taken ds2 to his room first b/c ds1 loves to drop off ds2. When we had to take bottles, we had a bag that he carried it all in. On Mondays, he has a bag that he puts on his shoulder to carry in the nap mats. We leave diapers, change of clothes, sippy cups (when they used them) all at school. The school provides lunch as well.

When I take the boys I have ds3 with me as well and I always do pick up. I put ds3 in the sling and then I can hold each of the big boys hand. I still have a bag that I carry in/out for stuff like nap mats, art stuff etc.

  • I take DD in first and give DS some kind of job, carry a blanket, lunchbox, my phone, anything works really.  He walks, I carry DD, it works out pretty well. I carry one large canvas bag full of their stuff.  I thought that DS would get jealous and want to be carried, but he went with it pretty well. I try to make it fun and tell him to run or jump over the curb.  Good luck!

Off topic, but I think of this from time to time too, because even with just 1 I don't manage to lock the door. Hope no criminal figures this out! :o)

  • When my kids were that age, I loaded the little one in his car seat into a snap and go and put all the stuff in the basket.  Then I got my two year old out of the car and let him walk.  I dropped off the older one first.  Baby was dropped off next b/c I had to put his bottles in the fridge and fill out a daily report form and all that jazz.

On pick up, I got the baby first b/c you have to take your shoes off before you go into the infant room and it was too hard to get my toddler to take his shoes on and off.

It wasn't long before my youngest started using sippy cups that I could just bring at the beginning of the week instead of bottles every day.  Their stuff gets less and now I just carry him or let him walk and my oldest still walks in by himself.
