What do you do to work out? And when!?

Alright ladies, the birth of DS2 has definitely thrown my body for a loop compared to DS1. I go back to work next week and will also get the "go ahead" from my doctor to start working out. What workout regimine do you do and when do you do it? I have Zumba and really like that, and also 30DS which I havent done in a while. But with 2 kiddos, when do you find time to work out? The only time I can think of is in the morning but I also need to get up and pump before I go to work. I guess Im only looking at doing something 3-4 days a week as I obvioulsy cant go super hard core while nursing. Any suggestions!? If only I could figure out how to pump and work out at the same time....hhmmmm....

  • I am struggling with the same issue. When the weather was warm it was great taking walks with my twins. Now I try to squeeze in 15- or 20-minute sessions on my stationary bike. Sometimes I'll even drag it in the nursery and bike while they nap! I would love to be able to do even 30-minute workouts but that is just not a possibility right now. I do know that the Jillian Michaels' 30-Day Shred workouts are tough but short (I think under 10 minutes)?

  • I haven't figured out an answer to this yet, and my DS is 8months!  I'm hoping to start working out more once I'm done BFing.  What zumba video do you use?  I like zumba and was thinking of getting a video...

  • I keep trying to find something that will work, but as sleep patterns change, etc. I keep having to change my plan.  :)

Right now I am getting on the treadmill (we have one at home) twice a week, once on a day I WFH or come in to the office late and once on the weekend.  I have a couple of 10-minute workout videos that I use after the kids are in bed a couple of nights during the week.  I can usually do two 10-minute segments in an evening without too much hassle.  It is not a lot, but it helps!

I also have a membership to the gym in my office building but work has been too crazy to get there during the day.  I hope to be able to go and at least do some light strength training at lunch sometime soon.

  • I take a long lunch and hit the gym. I alternate cardio and body pump classes. I have several DVD at home;30 day shred, Pilates, 8 min videos but couldn't exercise without interruption.

I got this set off Amazon a year ago or so. I really like it! It has a video that is 30 minutes and then some that were much longer.

I think the only way I can work this out is get up at 5am three mornings a week (or dont go back to bed if I just put DS2 back down!) and work out. Shower and pump. Get ready. etc. Oh geez.

  • I only have DD but Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6pm and Saturday mornings at 8am I run with a local running group.  DH knows this and this is what I will continue to do until I am unable.  I enjoy running and have a great group of friends there.  DH can work out on the other nights if he needs/wants to.  Its a great system for us.

  • I do pilates 2x per week and then go to the gym 2-3 mornings per week. The kids go to the daycare at the gym. They like it and are only there for 45 min. I don't set my expectations too high. A lot of it is diet too. You should shoot to get 80 grams of protein per day. that's a good diet to keep your energy up and breastmilk while also losing weight.

aglenn, if you check back in on this post, what workout videos do you use? I've been looking for shorter ones like these. Thanks!

  • Still working on this...

I've been running at my lunch break 2x a week and then running a longer run on the weekend. My goal right now is simply running 3x a week and then strength 1x a week.

We have a treadmill at home which I will probably have to start using more once it gets icy and below 20 degrees.

I'm too tired to do it late and getting up before 5 when we are still dealing with one baby who wakes up a lot is not going to happen.

  • The only time I can find to exercise (I only have one child) is during lunch at work.  We have a spare room with a TV.  I brought in a DVD player, and I do a rigorous one-two mile walking DVD before I eat my lunch.  Sometimes other ladies join me.  It's a seriously weak workout regimen, I know, but it's all I can squeak in right now.  I also try to get out for a long walk at a clipped pace (with DD in the stroller) a few times a week after work.  There's no time for anything else.
