How to style boy's hair?

I have a DD so forgive me if this is dumb, but when her hair got long I just put a clip in it.

DS's hair has gotten long. It's in his eyes and long in the back too. He has way more hair than my DD did at this age. Anyway, I realize I could just cut it but does anyone style it? I guess my real question is.... What have you done with your DS's hair? I've only had a girl, so I kinda lost.

Re: How to style boy's hair?

  • I usually have to take him to get his hair cut every two months.  In between I just comb it to the side with water.  It doesn't hold of course, but that's all I have done.  I haven't used any product yet.

  • E has pretty much always had a fauxhawk. Until he was like 3 his hair naturally grew in a mullet as he had no hair on the sides of his head and the back grows much faster than the front.

  • Don't hate on my drop side crib with the side down (less of a fall since he was a climber) and bumpers, they were allowed back then!
  • In my siggy is my DS's first hair cut. It was more of a trim to get it off of his ears and out of his eyes and off his neck. we comb it to the side and use a little organic hair spray to keep it that way. I am not a fan of spiky hair styles on children under the age of 2... its just too grown up for me.

I like short hair on little boys, so I get T's cut every couple of months. I don't style it every day since it looks okay not styled. Once in a while I put a little bit of kidsafe pomade on the top and style it into a faux hawk. I tried doing it to the side once but didn't like it as much.

i think my biggest problem is that I don't like DS's hair combed to the side. He looks like a girl. Maybe I will just go shorter. Why am I having such a problem with this?

  • I've noticed a trend lately for long hair on young boys (shoulder length) and I am not a fan.  Most of my friends with boys usually just cut it short at this age.

I have a problem trying to figure out what to do with DD's hair.  It's in in her face all the time and she just pulls any clips, headbands, hair-ties, hats that put on her.

When my DD was around 14 mos I started putting things in her hair every day, and telling her not to touch, then distracting her. Eventually she got used to them. Even now, if I go a few days without, the next time I try she fights me, so I still try to do it daily.

DS's hair has not gotten to the cutting point yet, but when it does we will be keeping it shorter (around 1").

  • I cut DS's hair myself at home. He was actually sitting still for a few minutes so I just combed it and clipped the long strands. Later on he fell asleep in the backpack carrier on his Dad's back so I finished cutting it and cleaning it up then. My hairdresser recommended that we cut it while he is sleeping so he wouldn't be moving around while we are going at him with scissors.

  • I have been keeping it short because he had corse and curly hair it starts to look ridiculously messy. I think I am going to grow it out a bit now that it isn't summer and it won't be so humid. Anyway, I find short hair is just easier, I don't need to comb it, much less style it!

  • We just part it on the side and comb it.  He looks a little like a serial killer, but I want it to get a bit longer so he can tuck it behind his ears.

  • Jack's hair is a crazy, curly mess so we don't do anything with it. I finger comb it and that's it so I'm really no help. But, if he had another type hair I would probably give in and cut it to look neat and styled without really having to do anything to it (if that makes sense... like a side part with swooped shorter bangs).

I am having the same problem.  I have been trying to comb it to the side but I think it looks girlie (sp? girly?) and he has like 4 cowlicks in the front so it doesn't stay.  I haven't cut it yet because I don't know what to do with it.

sounds like we have the same kid!! DS has so many cowlicks and it just looked horrible and never stayed.

I love it this way now that I cut it! I haven't had to push it out of his eyes since doing it and he looks clean!!
