Question about pregnancy the 2nd time around...

I am 21 weeks today and feel like I did when I was about 30 weeks with my firstborn, in terms of belly size and discomfort level. Is this just the way it is? I hate to think of what I'm going to feel like in 10 weeks!! Did you notice this difference with your pregnancies?

Re: Question about pregnancy the 2nd time around...

  • at 16 w w/ number 2 I looked like i was 25+ weeks.  With #1, i had just barely popped at 15 w.  I had a c/s w/ both, so the 2nd pregnancy was much more painful due to scar tissue from the first.

Sorry I can't be more positive/helpful, but the end of the 2nd pregnancy was rough.  Esp chasing an almost 2 year old at the same time!

But...the good news...you'll make it through :)  It will suck for a while, but then you will have your sweet little muffin and won't care anymore.

  • Yep, that's just the way it is. Your body is acting out of "memory" and everything, including muscle/ligament stretching is falling into place. Sorry to say, but I was waaay more uncomfortable the second time around. Giving birth at the end of summer also likely had something to do with it. But yeah, I looked like I was 5 months pregnant at 8 weeks.

  • Everything just happens earlier the second time around.  My doctor said that your body just knows what to do after the first one.  I felt everything earlier but it didn't get worse with the second one, I just felt uncomfortable longer (if that makes any sense).  That's why I opted to be induced on my due date the second time around, because I'd been having contractions for 2 weeks and I was DONE.  Wish I had more positive news for you, but you'll get through it!  I will say that having 2 outside babies is a heck of a lot easier than being pregnant with a toddler, hope that helps!

  • I've definitely noticed the difference.  I started showing much earlier this time around even though I was pg with twins the last time!  I also had RLP really early on this time and more other early aches and pains.

  • As others have said, yes your body totally goes into baby mode SO much faster than the first time.  However with that said, although the growth is faster, it doesn't just keep going that way.  I will definitely say I was moaning and groaning about how I felt around 28-30 weeks, where as I felt like a rockstar the entire 9 months with DS #1.  I also wasn't working out with DS #2 like I did with #1 and I know that had a huge role with it.

Also the muscles are stretched from the first and the doctor said that had a lot to do with the belly discomfort with #2, where with #1 they didn't know what was going on :)

    Good luck!!!

  • 2 kicked my butt. Sorry to be so blunt! Pain started earlier, lasted longer, and I seriously spent the last 6 weeks in a recliner. I was pathetic. Recovery was also a little harder but I think that's b/c I had an unusually easy recovery w/ my first he was in the NICU which was emotional hell, but physically allowed my body to heal much faster.

  • ditto everyone else.  I think it's  combination of your body "remembering," your muscles already being stretched out, and having a little one to chase around.  I always tell people to really focus on tonight their core between pregnancies because the back and hip pain is so much worse the second time around!

With that said, this is my third pregnancy, and I don't know if it's because it's my third or because it's twins, but I have been dying since like 22 weeks.

  • Haha, well this is an encouraging post for me to read. ;)

It has been more uncomfortable this go round but, damn ya'lll. lol

  • Yes! I'm 38 weeks along with my second and I swear my stomach came out immediately. In the end though, I leveled out and am about the same size at the end of this that I was at the end of the first pregnancy, but it happened faster. This pregnancy has been much harder on my body. I don't know if it is age, the fact that I already have a child to take care of or what. Good luck!!!!!

  • Oh no!  We just found out that #2 is on the way and I had a horrible first pregnancy.  Hip and back pain started at 8wks last time and i'm still in therapy trying to get over it(9 months after birth).  Maybe this time will be easier since last time was so hard.
