Well, his fever spiked to 105.6. I called the on call pedi woke him up and he told me not to worry over that temp and to give him a bath. I did and my poor baby threw up and cried for nearly 30 mins straight. Fever still 105. I decided to take him to the ER. My pedi said on Friday that he had Rotovirus even tho he had no symptoms of Rotovirus expect for throwing up once turns out he has bronchitis. He got poked and prodded with needles and other devices and a nice shot in the butt, but he should be feeling better by morning. Thank you Jesus... And modern medicine.
Now my question is... Wouldn't you be concerned over a 105.6 fever? My pedi said not to worry unless it reaches 106107. Ummm... I really don't want to question him, but WTF????!?!???? The pedi here at the ER said I did the right thing and that she recommends the ER for anything over 103 for a toddler his age. When I told her he said 106107 she look shocked but tried to hide it in a professional manner.
Re: At the ER with Logan
I am so sorry about Logan! I hope he feels better real soon!
As far as the pedi, I would be finding a new one.
Glad you followed your instinct! Everything I have ever read says either 103 or 104. I'd be looking for a new pedi.
Hope he feels better soon!
Our pedi office says for temps of 103104 to bring them in or call the horline and anything above that, to go straight to the ER. How could your pedi even say he has rotovirus unless he's puking for hours straight? Plus, your pedi should have checked him out thoroughly enough to catch any other problems!
I'm glad that he's starting to feel better. Seriously, you made the right choice.

I have heard both opinions on fevers so I don't think your pedi is that far off. however, that said, my momma instincts would've insisted on an er visit, too.
Did Logan have a rotovirus shot?
Isn't rotovirus still given orally?
As for the pedi, I don't think it matters what they say over the phone. There is a real live patient that needs to be seen and examined.
103 and acting fine, maybe a little lethargy? I could probably get behind that... However, I've never seen my kids get that high and had them be acting semi-normal. Mom instincts always win.
Obv, since this was the on-call pedi you don't need to find a new pedi, but I would follow-up with your regular doc and discuss your capacity to handle your child's illnesses. If you're uncomfortable waiting until 106, you're not going to wait until 106. If he's 103, lethargic and vomiting, WE'RE COMING IN!! No hesitation. Your doctor should support your call in the heat of the moment.
Poor Logan! Thank goodness for modern medicine is right!
I guess I can see your pedi's point of view. The general consensus here that you should bring your child to the Dr if they have a fever of 103-ish that lasts for over then 48 hours, OR you bring them in right away if the fever is 105+
Still, I would have brought him in, regardless of what the pedi suggested. I hope he's feeling better today ::hugs::
yup, you're right-it is given orally. brain fart up in here!
Thank ladies. I did some research and my pedi was right about fevers, but he should have told me about it. what I read said that our brains will make sure we don't go over 105. A temp of 105 is extremely uncomfortable, but won't cause any 'damage.' unless for a prolonged period of time. If a temp goes above 105, then be concered bc that means something is wrong with our bodies natual tempature regulator. But even knowing this bit of info... I'm still bringing my baby into the ER if over 104 because you never want to be sorry!
I called my pedi this morning for a follow up visit (per ER instructions). I didn't even see the frecken DR! I saw the nurse practicioner. She was very sweet and thorough... but my son was just in the ER, I want to see his DR! She gave a complete opposite diagnosis from Logan's pedi and the ER pedi and told me NOT to give Logan the antibiotics he was perscribed at the ER. UGH... She said he didn't have bronchitis. I called DH and DH talked reason into me. He said "She isn't a DR. and we had a real DR who looked at chest X-rays last night confirm he has bronchitis... give him the antibiotics!" I am so disappointed in Logan's Peditrician. He is suppose to be one of the best in the area. IDK. All I care about now is for my baby bear to get better.
Yea, Logan had the rotovirus vaccine (oral). That's another reason the ER doc thought 'rotovirus' was a strange diagnosis by my pedi.
Holy cow! You never know what could be wrong. Mommy's HAVE to listen to instincts...that's why we have them! Better safe than very very sorry.
