Can't stand water

When my nausea hits, I have a really hard time drinking water without the urge to lose it.  I feel like I'm living off ginger ale and Gatorade.  Does anyone have any other drink suggestions that are working for them?

  • I'm having the same issue. And I can smell the ice cubes in my drink too and it grosses me out. I'm just slowly drinking water...a tiny sip here and there, but mostly ginger ale.

  • I'm glad you posted this, I feel like I hardly drink any water, it makes me sick to my stomach. I limit myself to 1 can of ginger ale but I also drink alot of juice. I try to make myself drink water but it is so hard.

  • Try Gatorade if you can stomach it. Otherwise Crystal Light sells singles packets now that have Stevia in them, and that might help mask the smell/taste.
  • I've done VitaminWater a few times and that has helped.  I think it's less concetrated than Gatorade.

  • I have gone through so much Gatorade in the past couple of days with a stomach virus--I might just live off of it for the rest of the pregnancy.  I'm terrible at drinking water.

  • Do you like San Pellegrino or Perrier carbonated water? That's my go to when I'm sick of ginger ale and regular water still doesn't sit right.

  • Have you tried drinking water at different temperatures?

I find that I cannot stomach ice cold water, but room temperature water does the trick. Perhaps even try hot water?

  • I've been doing hot water with lemon.  I was doing good with regular ice water till last week, then the smell of it was making me sick to my stomach.  Also, ginger ale tastes super sweet to me right now, not sure if it's the brand he bought, but yuck!

  • I drink quite a bit of carbonated water. WalMart has their own brand which is actually quite good and comes in multiple flavors. It gives a nice flavor to the water and the I love the fizziness. I still drink my regular water, but when I need a change, I go straight for the carbonated water.

  • I mix Gatorade with water. It cuts the sweetness a bit and you sneak a little more water in.

  • I thought I was the only one! When I tell people how grossed out I am by water they look at me like I am crazy! And I usually drink a ton of water. I am forcing myself to drink some throughout the day but it is tough. I am doing a good bit of gatorade and fruit juices. These food and drink aversions are no joke!
  • I feel the exact same way but I'm more likely to drink room temp water rather than cold ice water.

  • I am the same way, it's just water. I can drink anything else and the thing that helps me is a fountain drink. I think the bubbles help

  • I have been putting lemon in my water.  I actually bought the lemon juice concentrate in a bottle and a few drops seems to help me.  Maybe give it a try.

I might have to try this because the thought of drinking anything right now is nauseating (did I spell that right?).  I used to be able to drink between 2 and 3 liters of water a day.  Now I can barely get down a small water bottle.  It just tastes so gross to me.  And the ginger ale has been leaving an after taste.  Ugh.

  • Water made me throw up my entire pregnancy with DS. I know the "small amounts of caffeine" rule but unsweetened tea was the only thing I could stomach with #1. So far it's the same thing this time around.

  • Throw a peppermint tea bag in a big bottle of ice water. If you don't have a huge water bottle yet, I recommend a wide mouth Nalgene bottle or camelbak bottle so ice will fit. You can try diluting the Gatorade and juice or adding lemon slices, cucumbers, or mint to the water too. I've found that I drink more if I have a straw.
