Once again guys, its that time of week. For those of you who are new, I ask a few questions, you answer, then there are a few empty spots for you to throw something in, either pregnancy related, or just something going on in your life, work, sports, etc.
1) How was your Halloween?
2) What is your favorite holiday and why? How do you see incorporating either your child, or baby on the way into your favorite holiday traditions?
3-5 are you this week.
Re: 5 Thing Thursday
1) How was your Halloween?
Halloween was good. Took our 22 month old out for his first trick or treating. Despite the cold, he had fun (minus being scared by an 8 year old who thought Wolverine simply growled at the top of his lungs at EVERYTHING, including toddlers). Then we sat down at watched "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown", which he liked... but I don't know why they waited until Halloween night to air it.
2) What is your favorite holiday and why? How do you see incorporating either your child, or baby on the way into your favorite holiday traditions?
My personal favorite is Christmas. Not just the day itself, but that whole time frame... I love decorating the house, my family's cookie making traditions, the Christmas movies on TV. Then Christmas day is just fun, seeing family, spending time together. Christmas day is fun, exhausting and I wouldn't change a thing. As far as how we incorporated our son, he was born a week before Christmas, so his first Christmas he slept through 90% of it. But last year, we let him cut out a cookie and put the first ornament on the tree (it was a fabric one so he wouldn't break it) and had his first Christmas in which he was able to experience. I just see that expanding more now that he'll be 2.
3) My dad gave us a scare this week. He went out to pick up my son for the day he watches him for us, he went to the restaurant he goes to beforehand, he remembers going in, but does not remember leaving and he went home (without picking up my son because he couldn't remember why he was out) and got home with no recollection of how he did it. He went to the ER, got tested and found an abnormality on the left side on his EEG, so he's getting medicated for it and should be ok from here on out, but it was scary as it gets when I didn't know what was going on. My son is named after him, and is the only living grandfather he has, so the thought of losing him not only for me, but for my son was not a pleasant thought.
4) My sister was caught in Sandy. She lives out on the East Coast, but fortunately was far enough inland that it wasn't too bad for her. She lost power for about a day, but aside from that, she said it was just really windy where she was in Maryland. She was able to update us on Facebook fairly constantly, but it was nerve wracking.
5) With 3 and 4, along with the every day stresses of life, I really can't take any more stress right now. I feel as if I'm about pulled as far as I can take emotionally/stress level right now.
1) How was your Halloween?
Halloween was good. I played video games with a friend that I hadn't been able to connect with in awhile. We didn't do anything special for Halloween this year though. It was a nice relaxing night before my mother-in-law arrives tonight.
2) What is your favorite holiday and why? How do you see incorporating either your child, or baby on the way into your favorite holiday traditions?
I always thought my answer to this would be Christmas, but the last couple years of doing Thanksgiving on our own has swayed me to enjoying that more. I do miss being with family on Thanksgiving, but I've enjoyed making the turkey and all the other food.
3) This weekend I will be judging a homebrew competition. It should be fun. I also have a beer entered in the competition so hopefully it does well.
4) We have our NT scan on Monday. Excited to be leaving the first trimester! Assuming everything goes well with this appointment we will start telling people afterwards.
5) Today is the first day of National Novel Writing Month. I have decided to participate this year. It involves writing a 50k word fiction novel in the month of November. That is what the ticker in my signature is for. I wrote a small blurb this morning before work. Only 49,920 words to go!
1) How was your Halloween? Uneventful. No trick-or-treaters at all in my neighborhood = chocolate for breakfast. Doh.
2) What is your favorite holiday and why? How do you see incorporating either your child, or baby on the way into your favorite holiday traditions? I am looking forward to Christmas. My family growing up was not close and it was just my father and I. He traveled for work a lot so- I am looking forward to having family holidays even if it is from the role of the father and not the child this time around.
3) My wife will be 30 weeks on Friday. It is going by so fast but so slow. It is hard to describe. I remember her being 8 weeks, then 10, then 12, then 16, then 20, then 24, and now almost 30. Every day seems to go by so slow but... it just adds up so fast.
4) Nursery is painted. Crib is built. Bookshelf is built. Her closet is arranged and organized. Ordered some wall decals, some pictures, etc. Lots of stuff coming in to get ready.
5) The Tennessee Vols suck this year and it is bumming me out.
1) I have never been that into Halloween. Baby and wife were sick, so I took care of them and watched football since trick or treat here in Milwaukee was last Sunday.
2) Christmas is my favorite holiday. I just love the music, the hope and the joy that is shared by my large, Irish family during that time of year. We have already scheduled the Christmas photo for the little guy, he has multiple Christmas-themed outfits ready to go, and I plan on going all out with the decorations and the tree for him.
3) Packers have so many injuries right now, but they continue to win, which is all that matters at this point of the season.
4) I am not yet sold on Notre Dame......
5) The cold air has finally arrived here in Wisconsin. Not fun at all!!
I hear ya, man. I felt that way earlier this week. Just know that it will pass...until the next time you feel that way.
1) How was your Halloween?
Nothing really happened, my son wore a first Halloween onesie that his grandmother have him and later that day my wife put his costume on and he flipped out. It was a basic Mickey Mouse onesie (but was a little too tight) and a hat with Mickey ears. It's a 0-3 month and my kid is 6 weeks....but he is growing like a weed and we might be storing some of his 0-3 month clothes soon. Oh boy.
2) What is your favorite holiday and why? How do you see incorporating either your child, or baby on the way into your favorite holiday traditions?
I couldn't really think of a favorite Holiday. I like them all and Thanksgiving and Christmas are up there mainly because of the extra vacation days. I'm really far from my family and my wife doesn't have much family in SoCal so we don't get to do a lot of the family stuff that I love and grew up doing, but I'm looking forward to starting that with my son and hopefully our future kids. Next Christmas, 2013, we are flying to St. Louis to be with my family....I'm already excited about that and I secretly hope it snows then. I love snow.
3) Work still sucks. I'm looking for something new and meeting with HR on Friday. Finger's crossed.
4) My son just started sleeping over 3 hours at a stretch. Last night we got in 4 1/2 hours. I don't want to jinx it, but this has been awesome. I'm hoping this is a new milestone and it only gets better from here!
5) I haven't slept in the same bed with my wife in 3 weeks. My son will only sleep on his tummy so we are up around the clock and he is a noisy sleeper so that one of us can get a few hours of uninterrupted sleet the other person takes him downstairs to sleep. I know that this is only for a season and we are managing. I'm looking forward to laying next to my wife....and maybe one day we will do other stuff. BUT I'm managing expectations, for right now just sleep would be decent.
I think I am in for a rude awakening.
Well worth it. The time flies, and now that Jake is going on 3 months he sleeps in his crib every night, and he is now sleeping between 4-5 hours straight during the night, except for this past week due to the little cold he is battling.
