I'm at my wits end trying to make this work and I don't know who to tend to so if anyone has some advice I would love it. My husband works for the housing department at a university and as part of his contract we get a full apartment (full kitchen, living room, bathroom, etc.) specially made in the dorm that we are required to live in. The problem is my 10 month boy is... well a 10 month old boy and he makes noise and occasionally he'll cry. We have him in bed by 9:30 and he's sleeping through the night and he really is the happiest little boy I know, but sometimes there's just nothing you can do. He's had a cold the past few days and I was giving him some medicine he didn't like so he was fussing a bit and the next thing I know, there's a note under my door addressed "Dear Staff". The note was telling us to "shut that baby up" and "WHY THE HELL IS THEIR A BABY HERE?!?!" (her spelling not mine) and stuff like that. The front office was already talking about moving us to the building next door which has the same layout so this would just start over again in a few weeks. I'm terrified this is going to end with us hopping apartments every 6 months. I imagine this is similar to raising a baby in an apartment complex, but all the tenants are 18 year old girls.
Any advice? Please?
Re: End of my tether
I would ask the front office if there is somewhere more secluded that you could go, but honestly I wouldn't give it much thought. This is ONE person and no matter where you go and what you do you'll never please anyone.
If they end up moving you to a place with a similar layout I would suggest having some sort of a gathering if possible where you guys can all meet the people in the building. If you meet the other residents, introduce them to the baby, and explain why you're living there then I'm sure people will understand and you will hopefully not have these issues going forward.
We live in an apartment style condo and the babies cry and make noise, but so do my neighbors. The girls go to bed at 7 and my neighbor upstairs walks like an elephant (and she's a tiny lady) and the lady downstairs is really loud. I don't expect them to change their habits because my girls are in bed, and they've been great about the babies and haven't complained once. I made a point of introducing the girls to them and showing them the girls in their Halloween costumes and stuff like that.
I would ignore it. Babies make noise!
We live in a high rise. If someone complained about my baby crying I would completely ignore it. I have put up with a DJ playing music on pool deck all afternoon. Shouting in the halls etc. it's all a part of apt life.
