CP: For $100M net

For $100M net...

On the eve of election day, Romney's campaign manager has asked you to hold a press conference in which you will falsely admit to having an affair with President Obama. No add'l media coverage will be required on your behalf. Hopefully, all will be forgotten with the next big news scandal or weather disaster. The outcome of the election is unknown.

Re: CP: For $100M net

  • I look forward to these every Monday!

I don't know the history of these posts but was it something you just randomly started?

  • Yes, just something random I started. With so many ppl working for financial purposes, I figured why not create a hypothetical scenario to earn money quickly and test your morals/ethics.

I'm glad you look fwd to the weekly poll! I usually run the question past H first and it offers quite the conversation piece.

FWIW-he said Yes to this question which I think a homosexual affair is more scandalous. And yes, he voted for Obama.

  • For $100M net yes I would do it.  Would I get in any legal trouble for it? Then maybe not.  Unless it didn't require jail time.  Then again yes.

$100M net  is one boatload of money.  I wouldn't ever need to work again so really who cares about my reputation? And I would be off traveling the world with my family so I think I would do it.   Plus if invested well, this money would mean my kids would be set for life and their kids, etc.   And I could take care of my family and DH's family.  So I'll take the hit if it means my entire family would benefit.

  • I wonder how the answers would differ (if at all) if the proposal was to slander Mitt Romney instead...

  • I voted "No", but only because I am afraid of prison.

So, I think my answer is pretty much the same as PP.

I am assuming that the sentence referring to everything hopefully being forgotten with the next scandal implies that my son would not be reading about it in the history books in the future. If that sentence was also meant to imply that there were no legal consequences, then my answer would be yes, provided that my husband was also in on the plan.

  • I also voted no b/c of the personal & family backlash...it would not go away by the next election, Monica Lewinsky will not be forgotten by anyone who was an adult when all that happened, her kids will definitely find out about her, the prez, the cigar, etc & I can only imagine what her parents went through with all of that. Even with money, your reputation is not something that can be fixed IMO. Even if hubby is in on the plan, you couldnt tell anyone else, therefore, you would both have to pretend to everyone you know like this happened, be judged, etc. The stress it would put on your marriage/relationships would be pretty great. Plus I have a pretty unusual last name so there would be no hiding it.

    Just my .02.
