jump rope

i had my physical today and expressed my concern to my doctor about being ten lbs over my pre-preg weight. i was about 135 - pre-preg and i am 146 at 3.5 months pp. he said that i am not overweight but that 130-135 would be a great weight for me. he suggested jumping rope for a few minutes each day. he said that it would be more effective than running on the treadmill a few times a week. thoughts? suggestions for a routine? I have a big kitchen that I could jump in and it would be much easier than trying to trek to the gym, which has been difficult with the baby.

thanks!!!!

Re: jump rope

  • Here's a good starter workout from fitness magazine.

Remember to get a good warm-up in and stretch out your calves!  I used to practice doing 500 jumps in a row (starting over with #1 if I stopped or lost track) every day after work.  It's a great workout!

  • It is a great workout.........as long as it doesn't make you pee your pants!! I can run, lift, crossfit etc but jumping rope leads to incontinence for me. BUT, I have found if I pee when i first get to the gym, then again right before jumping, I can usually do okay.  Double unders (rope spins around twice for every one jump) are particularly challenging and spike my heartrate quickly. Good luck!
