Checking In

Hi ladies.  I hope you are all doing well, especially my neighbors in the tri-state area!  We lost power on Monday night and finally got it back yesterday!  Aside from being cold, and a loss of food and such, we are doing fine!  More than anything, my heart goes out to those who lost EVERYTHING!  P is doing good and I was so happy to pick up a warm baby this morning!

  • We got our power back last night also, and just got cable/internet/phone a few minutes ago!  We had to empty out our fridge and freezer, my dad told us that you can claim spoiled food on your home owners insurance.  We can't go anywhere because the lines for gas are at least 2 1/2 hours.

Ally, we were up by you at my aunt and uncle's house all week because they have a generator.  I don't think they wanted the baby to leave, they've been texting saying how much they miss her!

  • I'm so glad to hear you're ok! I was hoping you'd check in soon.We are still without power here. Our area got hit really hard so I'm not sure when we can expect it. I heard possibly by wednesday but who knows. We blocked of the doorways around our living room with plastic and blankets and are all living in there. We have no more clean clothes. We have a fireplace and a small propane tent heater we are using at night. They are keeping the temp somewhat tolerable. None of ye are sleeping that well though. We only have two nights worth of fuel left so we have to go out today to try to scrounge some more up. DH hasn't had work since before the storm. We're hoping he can go back soon. It's still crazy here. The firemen and military walked our neighborhood this morning checking to see if everyone is ok who is still here. Most of our neighborhood is abandoned because of the flooding. There are cop cars constantly patroling at night looking for looters. It's scary. I'm still thankful that we fared so well compared to most, but I'm really looking forward to having some sense of normalcy back.
  • ally - Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts!!

    Liz - Enjoy!!

Wishful - I am so sorry to hear of the tragic events on your block.  I saw SI on the news this morning and it looks awful!  Hang in there!  *hugs*

CMonkey - you are MORE Than welcome to come to my house to wash clothes, shower, have a hot meal, etc.  I am not too close, but the gas in my area is abundant and there are a lot of stores and restaurants open, so the trip may be worth it.  I am in Freehold right off route 9 by the Freehold Raceway Mall.  Text or call if I can help in ANY way!  I will PM my number to you.  hang in there!!

  • wilson, thank you so much for offering! That is more than generous of you. My bff just got power last night in forked river so I may go do some laundry there. I'm trying to avoid the gas lines though so we'll see. I feel bad even complaining or stressing about menial things like that when do many people are worse off, but my patience is just wearing thin I thinko
  • Thank you for checking in. It's so heartwarming to hear how lucky so many of our October mamas have been. Here's hoping for a speedy return to normalcy.

Of course they didn't want Li to leave! I'm glad you got your power back finally! If you come back up this way, the gas lines in Westwood are not bad. MH and I went at different times yesterday and each only had to wait 20 minutes. If you want the street address, let me know.

I teach classes at NYSC. I'm not sure how close one is to you, but they are letting anyone come in and use their showers charge their devices. If you let me know what town you're in, I can let you know the closest one to you with power. You can even put your LO in the childcare and take a long, hot, stress free shower.

Thanks. On the way back from Cresskill there were major lines, but DH went to Parsippany during the Giants game (he figured everyone would be home watching), and he waited less than an hour.
