constipation question

Ok, my baby is about to turn 1 year next week and she is having this ball like poop (just like a grown up person), last time when we went to the Pedi we mentioned that every once in a while she poops like that and she mention to us that she was a little constipated, well she start doing like that again but I'm confuse now because I read about constipation and she doesn't have any of the symptoms like hard grunting or look in pain when she is passing the stool, or like she is troubled passing stool, she also poops everyday and the poop doesn't look like a hard dry ball neither, is just like a grown up person poop (can't be more specific I guess sorry)...Just want to know if everybody else has the same thing at this age or if is something I should really worry about it and check again with the Dr.

Re: constipation question

  • Even if it is constipation, I don't think you'd need to have a special appointment with your doctor about it.

DD has constipation - complete with crying while pooping - and the "prescription"  is eating fiber and upping fluids.  I wouldn't really worry if she's not uncomfortable, but if you want you can use the "p" diet (prunes, peaches, peas, spinach, and apricots) to help her out.

  • Ah, the balls of poop!  We've had those with and without the grunting, crying and such.  Usually correlates to something she ate (aka something the inlaws fed that didn't agree, grr!) but she's mostly vegetarian at the moment so when I feed her it's plenty of fiber and she's back to normal :-)
