DD and I are going to India in three weeks to visit my brother and his wife. I am not going to bring the stroller, my SIL said that the infrastructure is not really there for strollers and she rarely sees other parents using one. We will have a car (and car seat obviously) for longer rides and DD walks well but slowly. I have a Beco Gemini that I still use but she is very heavy by now and I think she is approaching the weight limit for it (she is 33 pounds). Do any of you have experience with wrapping (on the back of course) a two and a half year old? This would also be convenient for the flights.
The reason I can't just try this out is that my wrap is at DD's dad's place so it is a bit complicated to get it. It is a Stork, I used it constantly before she was one, mainly for front carry so I would also have to learn to wrap for back carry. Is this realistic? I only want to use it, if she sits better than in the Beco where I can carry her for 10 min but then I'm exhausted.
Re: Using a wrap with a 2 1/2 year old?
Definitely doable and Storchs are great big kid wraps. I usually use just a plan old ruck (I like to have enough to wrap around my front and then tie back under kiddo's bum for extra support) or a back wrap cross carry.
That said...since you have three weeks you might want to investigate a larger size buckle carrier. Wrapping is doable but since you are out of practice, you may not find it as quick and easy as you'd like. Even though I love wrapping, I prefer buckles or a mei tai with my big kid when out and about since it makes ups and downs easier.
I think you would find a bigger bodied buckle carrier more comfortable than the Beco (which is really quite small!) - you should be able to come by a Toddler Kinderpack or a Toddler Tula pretty easily - they have 45 pound limits I think? I also have a coupon code for the ABC in my siggy link; their toddler version is more lightweight and not as large bodied (although bigger than the beco) and is less structured (but I actually prefer that
. These bigger bodied carriers will keep her legs from dangling and keep her from leaning - and that can make things MUCH more comfortable for you!
