Parenting after a Loss

Formula Recommendations?

Unfortunately, Ben and I can't continue breastfeeding for medical reasons. We've been supplementing for a while but we're now using only formula. The couple of times he has been in the hospital we used the regular form of Similac or Enfamil both caused some gas. Over the last week he has had only Similac and he's had quite a lot of gas pain and discomfort. I'm thinking of trying the sensitive version of either the Similac or Enfamil. Dies anyone have any thoughts, experiences or recommendations? Thanks!

Re: Formula Recommendations?

  • We supplement 4-8oz a day and use Earth's Best Organic. They also have a sensitive version. DD has no issues with it.

  • We use Similac Sensitive (orange) and noticed a difference. He still has gas but he can get it out, and during the times he seems to be struggling we use gas drops.

  • Ben had bad gas pains and constipation from the Enfamil Newborn so we switched him to the Enfamil Gentle Ease and he is like a new baby.  He still spits up small amounts occasionally but hasn't had a single day without a BM since the switch.  Also Gas Drops for his hickups etc. has worked well for him. • I would suggest staying away from similac.. Ds started with advance, then sensitive then isomil and now does a combo of isomil and nutramigen.. When I was researching his issues, I found an accredited article suggesting similac products can create digestive issues.. We still use isomil because the combo seems to work now and I'm afraid to switch, but in the future I will avoid similac.
