I'm 7 weeks now and super excited, but keep reading about "advanced maternal age" complications, genetic disorders and so forth. I'm trying to keep the negative energy out of my head, but its difficult. My husband and I are healthy and my mom had my sister when she was 37 and me when she was 39, and both of us are fairly normal...haaaahahh. Kidding aside, I just want a healthy baby- I have a genetic counselor appointment on Nov 9th so I hope my bloodwork from that will be normal and everything will be ok.
Re: 37 and this is my first!
BFP #1 - missed m/c 4.18.11 found @8w3d, d&c @13w
BFP #2 blighted ovum found 8.2011 @8w, misoprostol
BFP#3 - missed m/c 6.11.12 @ 9w3d, d&c revealed extra chromosome 15
BFP#4 8.10.12, DD born 4/26/13
I'll be 38 on November 3rd and this is my first! It's easy to get caught up in all the genetic abnormality hype, but after speaking with my genetic counselor-- there's still a less than 1% chance that my baby will have any genetic abnormality. And I'm older than you!
Congratulations! Hang in there and try to enjoy the ride!
My Ovulation Chart
I am 37 and in week 10...also trying not to worry...and the OB doesn't seem worried about my age...but I think it is natural to worry anyway...had a bunch of blood tests done last week and scheduled for wk 12 U/S on Nov. 12...
Was put on med for lot thyroid hormone production last week...am hoping not to hear from the doctor's office this week.
Best of luck to you
This will be my second child I am also 37, 38 when this LO arrives. It is hard to stay positive when there is so much negative talk related to AMA. My grandmother had my mom at 40 and my uncle at 43 and that was in the late 1940's so that gives me hope.
Welcome and I hope you have a H&H 9 months!!
Thanks for your post. Your daughter is just beautiful!!!!
Thanks so much- I feel better reading all of the posts that people are sending my way- It's nice to talk about this with others. Congrats to you as well!
I am 39 and 29 weeks pregnant. This pregnancy has actually been a lot easier then the one I experienced when I was 23/24 and so far we haven't had anything indicating any genetic issues.
Good luck and Congrats!!!!
Me too! I can totally relate to this post. It is really scary. But it's also so hard to predict. My cousing had 2 healthy babies at 41 and 43 and one of my closest friends had to terminate for trisomy and she was only 30. It's a crap shoot. Hang in there...and know that you are not alone!
