animal lovers come in

I am just sickened right now. And an ungrateful biatch, I don't care.

After losing our home in the hurricane, we are in the process of moving to my husbands grandmas house. She is 90 something, its not ideal, but short term.

The day before we are supposed to move in, she drops the bomb that "maybe" my 2 indoor 9 year old bunnies can stay in the freezing cold basement, but my 2 dogs have to stay at my in laws. My 1 dog is a therapy dog and she needs to keep up with her training.

There is no FLIPPING way that I just lost my home and now my pets. I am a huge animal lover and they are a comfort to me.

Ps. The grandma is "afraid of falling over the dogs" but she can walk around with my 15 pound baby and says its alright? If you remember, I wad scared to death of her walking around with them but she always insists she is fine.

Eta: what pisses me off more is that MIL says "I thought we talked about this". Nooooo, actually you suggested the crates go in the back bedroom! Don't try to pull a fast one on me!

I'd be pissed. Sorry Grammy, they're coming or you're going to an old folks home. And not a good one! Joking...sorta

    Thanks, I needed that laugh!

  • Yea that wouldn't fly with me. Can the dogs stay in the basement? You could get a space heater and blankets for them.

I thought people aren't supposed to use them because they start fires?

As if you haven't lost enough :(

I'm so terribly sorry about your home.  I can't believe that you are living this, I can't imagine.  I've been away this past week so I only recently heard about your loss and it made my heart drop.

About your animal: they lost their home, too!  They don't need to lose you and you don't need to lose them.  Animals are living, breathing creatures and you can't just dump them off.  They also know something is going on and probably are a little freaked out too, and being with their owners is the best thing.

I wish your gram would understand!  I can see her concern, and it is her house, but it just seems a little silly to ask you to part with pets at a time like this.

Yep I agree with all this. Ugh, what a terrible situation to be in for so many reasons. I feel so bad for you guys. Can't your DH say anything to his grandma about this? Are you and DH sleeping in a guest room or something? and she still won't let you have at least the bunnies in the room with you? How far away do your inlaws live? Are your dogs happy to stay with them? If I was you, I would totally be freaking out right now. I'm sorry I don't have any suggestions :(

  • thank you for your support girls. My FIL is going to try to soften their grandma up tomorrow. My 1 dog, the therapy dog, has been pretty anxious and not eating. This isn't a good time for me to leave them. it is about a 15 minute drive to their grandma's house . but with twins and a job far away, I don't know how often I'll be able to get here to visit.

  • I haven't had a chance to say how sorry I am that y'all are having to go through this. And you are in my T&P's.

And no, this is not a good time to be away from your animals. They definitely know something isn't normal, and to leave them will only make it worse. For me, my dogs = family members.
