Any runners out there?

How are you handling running and being pregnant? What does your doctor say? I have stopped until I talk to my OB so it's just walking on the treadmill for me until then-which is fine bc I don't want to do anything against my doctor's advice/orders. I was just wondering how others are handling their workouts!

A little bit about me...

I'm a runner and haven't stopped. The general rule of thumb is continue the form of exercise you're used too and don't add to it.

I was told the same thing. Continue as normal.
  • I run, but since I've been spotting I've decided to just walk until after my u/s on the 15th.

  • I'm a runner/triathlete. I've dialed back the pace and distance of my running and am also doing some swimming and biking(indoors). Nothing quite as intense for now till I talk to my doc. That said you gotta balance it our, if you stress more not being able to work out(running is a huge stress reliever for me) that's not good either.

I also run and have continued as normal per my Dr.'s okay. She said exactly what PP said, do what you are used to but don't add to it or increase intensity.

  • Thank you everyone!!! Last time, I had a much older, more traditional doctor. She was VERY against running and made me quit. I honestly didn't handle it well as running is a stress reliever for me too. So, this time around I am switching doctors and going to talk to her/them about it at my appointment. It's good to know I'm not the only "fitness girl" out there!! I love my workouts and really hope I can keep it up during my pregnancy!!

  • I'm running the same as always, about 35 miles a week.  My dr said as long as you're a runner, you can keep on running.  The only thing she was concerned about was later in the pregnancy when your center of gravity is off.   My last pregnancy I stopped running as soon as I took the HPT.  Probably shouldn't have since I gained 80lbs!

  • I'm a runner, too, about 20 miles/week at this point. I really don't want to stop and hope I don't have to! A friend of mine ran a 5k on her due date wearing a t-shirt that said, "today is my due date!"

  • I do a boot camp that is pretty intense and the waivers specifically say NOT for pregnant women.  This current session ends next week, but I'm trying to figure out if I should tell my instructors before the next workout.  Haven't even told our families yet, but I guess my workout buddies will know before they do.   I'm planning on keeping moderate exercise up  (elliptical, jogging, stroller strides 5-6 days/week) and getting a heart rate monitor.

I was put on modified bedrest my first pregnancy and I really want to be able to workout the entire pregnancy this time.
