A little concerned but probably over nothing.....

Hi laides

I haven't been posting lately because things have been crazy with work, easing into my husbands new schedule and me taking on more with the baby I live on LI and we just got hit with hurricane Sandy, and I do apologize for not reaching out...

I wanted to ask all you lovely ladies... I have a DS (he was due May 30th I had him June 1st but I never left the may boards because I felt comfortable here!).  He is a BIG boy (he takes after my husband side they just breed them big).  He was 5 months yesterday and is approx. 22lbs.  I was wondering about rolling over.  He gets so close but seems to give up and I know each baby is different with each milestone but what was rolling over like before your LO's actual rolled over.  Our little guy is not the biggest fan of tummy time and the dr. says it might be because he is a bigger boy adn it might be too much pressure on him :(  he does get tummy time just in short intervals throughout the day though!

Any feedback would be much appreciated.  Thank you and again I am so sorry I have been absent!!!!!!

Re: A little concerned but probably over nothing.....

  • My DS (who is now 3.5) rolled over AFTER he started crawling...no joke.  He crawled at 6.5 months and started walking at 8.5 months.  Babies progess at different rates....so no worries!!

  • Don't be worried.  Everyone meets milestones at different times.  My DS is a May 10th baby and still hasn't rolled.  I'm not concerned.

  • We just started rolling over yesterday... at just over 5.5 months (born may 7th)

  • I think the "normal" range is 4-6 months... but for a bigger boy it might naturally take him a little longer, because he's got more to coordinate to be able to move.

  • My big boy was due on the 17th but was induced on the 25th. He is now over 19 lbs and very long. I kid you not, the first time he rolled from front to back i was googling "my baby isnt rolling yet"!!

Yesterday morning I found him on his stomach for the first time. For a while he has gotten close but just today I saw him roll to his front and get his arm out from under him then roll back within a short period. This slower development is extra tough for me because my daughter was sitting up really well by five months! She was smaller but not by a ton. I just have to remember he will get there in his own time.

  • Wow 22 lbs my oldest was 15 months before he weighed that : your arms must get tired!
I know my nephew who was born at 10lbs took longer to roll over than my peanuts but he also talked first.

  • No rolling here either.  She loves to sit and stand with help, but hates anything that doesnt let her look all around.

  • Our little guy is the same way. He's about 23-24 lbs and just gets up onto his side. I think it's cause he's so chunky that he needs more time to develop muscles under all that weight! You aren't alone! Smile

  • This makes me feel like my DD is "normal" too! She's 22 pounds and 29.5 inches and rolled back to front about 1 month ago she's 5 months now, but won't roll front to back. I was beginning to get a little worried, but read that it sometimes takes longer for bigger babies. Although now she is sitting so well she has no interest rolling or laying down.
  • Every baby is different my DD was A premie peanut and didn't roll to her back until 12 months developmental pedi wasn't concerned. DS is a big boy at 20lbs and is doing everything super early. Don't worry.
