Weight after baby is born

Hi all:)

So I have been a lurker on this board for quite awhile, I'm due Christmas Eve with DD2. I just have a quick question hopefully someone can help me out- with my first daughter, I breastfed her for 12 months and luckily I lost all the baby weight very fast. Which was nice at first but then I lost about an extra 10-15lbs, and I kept my weight like that until I stopped nursing. This put me right at 95lbs. I loved nursing and want to nurse DD2 for at least a year if not more, but I looked so sickly and pale, and I felt terrible too. I eat a well balanced diet, and plan on light exercise (which I didn't do with DD1) someone suggested drinking ensure once a day while nursing, has anyone tried that? Or does anyone have any other tips? Thanks:)

  • Make sure your getting the extra calories you need during nursing. Eating healthy is always good, but you need to up your caloric intake. I would try that and see what happens. Maybe try eating a few foods high in good fats.

  • I had the opposite issue. I only ever lost maybe half of what I gained and I bf for almost 14m, exclusive for 6m. I exercised and did weight watchers too. I think it is just how your body is. Some do what you did, some do what I did. You can try ensure, I know a lot of people who have low weight issues have success with it.

  • Talk to your doctor and see if you can consult with a dietitian. But I think drinking an ensure a day or other supplemental drink is a great idea.

I agree. I'd also make sure your diet includes enough healthy fats!
