baby wont nurse to sleep anymore?!

Okay first of all I am on my phone so I'm sorry if I have typos or anything. My baby has nursed to sleep since day 1. It was easy and fast for me to get him down, and it didn't involve tears. We've also been cosleeping but he spends the beginning of the night on a floor bed in his room. He wakes frequently, about every 12 hours. I nurse back to sleep... And then have some peace and quiet with DH3 before we decide to hit the hay.
Lately, when he wakes up he doesn't nurse. He just rolls around moaning and groaning.he doesn't respond to me rubbing/patting, he just keeps fussing. Is he naturally night weaning? He'll usually just give In to nursing to sleep after about 20 minutes of rolling around In his bed. I'm not sure what's going on here! He's not sick. He has 6 teeth right now and he's not teething ATM. He just turned 8 months.

Re: baby wont nurse to sleep anymore?!

  • DD will fuss and moan sometimes in her sleep but is not completely awake. We learned to just let her be and she goes back to sleep. As long as she is not actually crying, we don't mess with her. Could this be it?

  • Sometimes DS starts to sit up or move around and fuss in his sleep. Usually, if I lay him right next to me and offer the breast, he'll nurse and fall right back asleep. Other times, though, he pushes away as though he just wants to fuss and be grumpy for a bit. I typically don't push nursing, then, but I let him move around a bit and then try again - all this is in his sleep.

I doubt that your guy is night weaning. He probably is just going through a restless sleep stage. I recommend offering to nurse but not being pushy, just offer consistently and he'll probably settle down. :)

    I agree with this :
My little guy has been doing quite the same thing the last little bit, just very restless and won't settle, but he will end up nursing back to sleep after a few minutes. FWIW I think my little man's problem has been gas, because when he does settle he'll usually let out a big toot.
