I wish someone had told me how time consuming breastfeeding is in the beginning. I read all of these books and they said that babies typically eat every two to three hours so I expected that this is what a newborn would be like. No one told me that he would want to eat for 45 minutes at a time, every hour and a half. It was basically 45 min on/45 min off for the first few weeks. I was so overwhelmed. I think I would have done much better if I had been mentally prepared for that. Everyone tells you about the lack of sleep, but no one tells you this. I am so glad I stuck to it, though, because now it's so much easier than preparing bottles.
Re: I Wish Someone Had Told Me _______ (IWSHTM)
But I'm glad you stuck it out too it's a great experience after you get past the newborn stage.
Yes, I took a class (albeit with a friend a few years back) and read books. I must have skimmed over the part where it said it was so time consuming, lol. I talked with lactation consultants at the hospital and neither of them said anything. I was seriously shocked! I did start lurking on the BFing board after DS was born and discovered it was normal. I wish I had done so earlier.
Yes, cutting little fingernails totally stressed me out, haha. I usually make DH do it!
Hi, I mostly lurk but thought I'd join in the fun
IWSHTM that LO will puke/poop/pee on me every time I have an important meeting on laundry day. Every. Freakin. Time. I swear I see him smirk right before he destroys my last clean outfit. They're to young to start plotting against us, right?
LOL. Not every time but a lot of the time my girl will pee after I take her diaper off to change her. It's like a fountain and goes everywhere. I swear she waits until right before I put the new one on her because she smiles too!
Ugh same here! I'll admit I didn't take a BFing class, but I sooo wish I would have... I read and thought I had enough info, ha! Live and learn. I also was shocked when I realized that all my baby wanted to do was nurse, nurse, nurse. I actually googled, 'is it normal for my baby to want to nurse all the time?' I resorted to EPing after bad latch and a sleepy baby... I miss nursing so bad now. I've been trying to get her back on with no luck yet.
THIS...or I wish I would have believed them if they told me. Ha

And when you have more kids you won't believe how much time you had when you only had one kid! Most ftm don't believe that either.
