C-sections

Which would you do again?

If you had both, vaginal and c/s... which would you chose to do again the next time around and why??

Just curious as I am constantly debating for what my next one may or may not be!

Re: Which would you do again?

  • We're 100% done having kids, but if I wasn't and could choose I would definitly try for a VBAC. My recovery after DS vaginal birth was much easier than after DD c section.

  • I would do vaginal again.  I told DH that if our second child resulted in another c/s then we would definitely be done with kids because I just do not do surgery well.

  • Great question! I had a C-section (breech baby) with DD and had a great experiance.  and I just opted to do another C-section with #2.  However, i'm interested in the answers because I can still change my mind.

I'm a little scared of the Vbac though to be honest!

  • I had a VBAC with DS2, and I would definitely choose that over a c/s if we have a third.

    DS1 - Feb 2008

    DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)

  • I would choose a natural birth, although to be honest, both ways sucked. There doesn't appear to be an easy way to get the baby out, so until there is, I generally believe that natural is best, save for any medical concerns that would indicate another c-section.

For me, my decision to attempt a vbac came down to a few things. 1) I didn't want to be recovering from c-section while caring for my older child. 2) I know that repeated c-sections become riskier as time goes on (many doctors recommend against having more than 3-4 kids if you have c-sections because each pregnancy and surgery becomes riskier). 3) I really, really regretted not being able to hold my baby after my c-section (my hospital's policy: mom to recovery, baby to nursery) and I wanted to be able to hold my next baby immediately.

  • I think I'm going to try for a VBAC.  I had a super easy vaginal birth and a super easy c/s.  One wasn't worse than the other, just different (for procedure or recovery), but I don't want to opt for a major surgery if it's not needed.  I believe that a normal (meaning not a 4th degree tear, not needing vacuum or foreceps, hours of pushing) are healthier for mom and baby.

  • I would choose a c-section.  My experience was wonderful and I wouldn't have it any other way.  It was planned due to several complications and saved me from a lot of trauma.  If you can keep the nerves away, it can be great!
  • It totally depends.

I had a vag with my 1st that was truly horrid (38 hours of labor, four hours of pushing with no epidural for the last two hours, a 4th degree tear, broken blood vessels in my eyes and face, screaming myself hoarse, hallucinations, kicking a nurse, etc.), so I had a C/S with my second and it was like an absolute dream.

Other people push their babies out in 20 minutes and hire a photographer to capture the beautiful experience.  So it just really depends.  Sorry if that isn't helpful.

  • Vaginal.   I had major complications after my c-section.   With #1, I was bopping all over my room only hours after he was born.   With #2, I could barely move at 3 days post partum and wound up in CCU at 4 days post partum.
