I'm around 8 weeks and morning sickness is kicking my butt. Aversions, nausea, fatigue.....etc. I feel like it's worse this time around because with DD, I could lie in bed, or just eat whatever I could manage. But now I've got a toddler, so that means I have to actually look at food and deal with it. ![]()
So, DH and I are throwing a huge Thanksgiving party in 2 weeks. It's tradition and this is our 9th year doing this. It started when we were in college with just 2 friends, and it's evolved into this huge 40+ person party with spouses and kids. It's potluck, and everyone always looks forward hanging out. We sent out the invites before I knew I was pregnant, and now that it's coming up, I'm seriously worried about how I'm going to handle this. No one knows I'm pregnant yet. I was talking to a friend this weekend, and she mentioned how she's looking forward to eating my stuffing. Ummm, just the thought of stuffing makes me want to gag. The fatigue part, I can get over, DH can handle our part of the food, drinks, and prep. But when people actually start eating, someone's going to notice that I'm not eating anything(or hiding in the pantry eating some cheese and triscuits)! So, then I thought, hey, these are our closest friends, we should just tell them I'm pregnant and not feeling well. I mean, the only reason we're not telling anyone yet is because it's still early, but if anything happened, I think I'd be ok with our friends knowing. However, I don't want the party to become all centered around me and how I'm feeling. Canceling the party is not an option at this point. Any advice?
Re: 2nd pregnancy, morning sickness, party - wwyd?
How was your morning sickness with your first pg? For me it was gone with both girls by 10-11 weeks. Maybe just see how you feel the days before the party and if it has passed and you're eating great, if not you can choose to tell or say that you've been sick.
my read shelf:
With my first pregnancy, I was sick up until about 15 weeks. For some reason, this pregnancy seems worse, so I'm not too hopeful about feeling better sooner.
My MS lessened close to 10 wks... I hope yours does too! Otherwise, I agree with PPs - tell your friends! They'll be excited and understanding of why you're not feeling well.
BUT if you're not comfortable, just tell them you're getting over a 24 hour bug and have a hard time eating certain foods...
