Those who bed share.

Where does ypur LO nap? Since my little-man learnt to roll, nap time stopped being an opportunity for me to get stuff done; I'm either trying to keep busy in the bedroom, or I'm stuck in the lazy-boy (like right now) while he sleeps on me. I aalways nurse him to sleep, and usually when I try moving him to the crib he wakes up. I've got myself into a situation and I'm not sure what to do! After 3+ months of thisn the house is a mess!

Re: Those who bed share.

  • I nap with her often. And eventually, we used a floor bed so rolling off wasn't much of a problem.  Not to mention, I think she rolled off all of twice (off a height of six inches).  But really, I nap with her a lot, even now (at 2.5yrs) because I need the sleep!

  • My LO never really rolled a lot, so it wasn't a problem for us. Now that he is older, he crawls on and off the bed (though he still needs help getting on). We taught him how to slip off the bed backwards as soon as he could crawl. I nurse him to sleep in the middle of the bed for all naps, and I usually take one a day with him. For the other one, once he's really asleep, I slip away quietly but come to check on him often. He doesn't move until he wakes.

Could you get a toddler rail for one side and push your bed against the wall? Then, if you check on him pretty often, he is less likely to roll off. Also, have you thought about putting your mattresses on the floor, or if you have a guest bed, putting that mattress on the floor to use for naps?

Good luck! I have so enjoyed the snuggles, so even after a year I've never regretted the way we do naps. :)

Thanks for the great ideas! I think the trickiest thing is that we have a small house with small rooms and no storage, so we have a bed with draws under it which makes our bed 3 feet high. Maybe I'll have to try the toddler rail, or if I put the crib mattress on the floor in his room. And I definitely know what you mean about the cuddles! Before he was born we never thought we would bed share, and we figured he would be in his own room by 6 months! lol

Isn't it funny how actual parenting changes our perspective? While I was pregnant I used to say that LO should start out immediately sleeping in his crib so that we would have no messy/difficult transitions...hah! My silly little pre-baby self. DS was held 24/7 during my maternity leave, and every minute I was home after work (I SAH now, though), and he has always slept with us!

You can get a toddler rail (or two!) at Wal-Mart, and I think they're not too expensive. We were going to get one so that we could put the mattresses back on the bed frame, but now that DS loves crawling on and off the bed, we've put that off again.

This is so true! Before DS was born I was all for CIO, I figured it was less crying in the long run. Even thinking about the money and time put into finding a stroller, we have used it twice.
And thanks for the bed rail tip! We'll have to check them out!
