I am almost 6 weeks pregnant and learned today that I have Strep throat group C. I went to my PCP on Monday for a throat culture and the office just called me today with the results. I am supposed to call my PCP in the morning to let her know how I am feeling- she will then consult with my OB to see what the next steps should be, i.e., what are the safest antibiotics.
I am so scared that being sick and taking antibiotics will effect my pregnancy. Has anyone else had Strep while preggo or taken antibiotics during the first trimester?
I am drinking lots of fluids and hot decat tea w/ lemon & honey (pasteurized of course ) Is there anything else I can do naturally to make me feel better?
Thank you,

I am happy to hear you kicked the butt out of both strep and bronchitis! It is so reassuring to know that you took antibiotics too and everything is okay.
I am allergic to penicillin so I know I need to likely stay away from the "cillin" pills. I am going to go get another tall glass of water now

YES! I had strep when I was around 12 weeks. I took antibiotics w/o a problem. There is a specific kind that my doctor gave me that's safe to use during pregnancy....can't remember now what it was. I also gargled with salt water, ate spicy Thai curry soup and sucked on natural throat drops. Nothing really made me fell better until the antibiotics kicked in though. BTW-this happened the day we were packing for a cross country move. I got on a plane to move from GA to WA the next morning. My 4 year old son had it too at the same time. Good times.
I am so sorry...strep really sucks. Feel better soon!
TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!
Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!
