I can't say it was a HUGE success. She weighed DS before and after a feed and he was only getting 40ml. She then suggested tube feeding. Basically you breastfeed and then stick a tube in his mouth that drips formula in, as he sucks. She weighed him after that and he got another 20ml of JUST breastmilk, so 60ml total. She said I should be aiming for 33.5 oz a feed so I am about an ozish short.
I asked if I could come back and do the weigh in again for a number of reasons. I had just fed him an hour and a half before, she asked me to break the latch both sides because he was being lazy, but really he always takes breaks and breastfeeds for about 3040 minutes total and she gave me about 25 and because I feel like my supply is better earlier in the day instead of late afternoon.
The lady said no, because it would make me crazy and suggested continuing to supplement with formula. I feel disappointed and discouraged that my body isn't doing what it is supposed to, but proud of myself for continuing to breastfeed.
So, right now we are doing 3 bottles a day at 2pm, 7pm and 2am but now I am wondering if I should give more or less. Yes, I continue to worry about starving him especially after the weigh in results!! I am tempted to call another LC and try and get another appointment. What do you ladies think?
Oh, and his weight went from 92 to 914 in 7 days....

Re: My Lactation Appointment
I would totally get another appt. with another LC. I would have had the same concerns you did. Especially the one about you having fed him so recently. According to kellymom.com if it's been 2 hours since the last feed LO should take around 2 oz. 3 hours 3 oz. etc. So really what your LO got was right in line.
Alos my LC said LO should be gaining around 1 oz a day at this point. So your LO gaining 12 oz. in 7 days is pretty awesome.
Thanks! I am on motiilium, fenugree, have oatmeal daily and am drinking lots of water! Maybe I will look at renting a scale!
This!
I agree with renting a scale or going to another LC, mine told me to stop by anytime to do a weighed feeding.
Just remember, you are doing great!
