Baby Measuring Small

I had my 24 week appointment today and the doctor thinks the baby is measuring a week behind just from feeling my belly. Of course this got me very upset and I have a follow up ultrasound to track my baby's growth in four weeks. Is it really possible for the doctor to asses this just from feeling my stomach? The baby was measuring right on track at my 20 week ultrasound.  I'm not showing very much but I've also been eating really healthy and working out so im not sure if this is contributing to  my doctors concern. So far ive gained 13 lbs and my doc said my weight gain is right on track. Has anyone else experienced this and am I overreacting? I just want my baby girl to be growing properly and stay healthy.

I don't know if this will make you feel better, but here's my experience. At my 23w appt baby girl was measuring in different percentiles and it was freaking me out. The doctor said not to worry, but I did of course. Within two weeks everything was evened out.

There are so many growth spurts and lulls around this time, and all babies grow at different rates. Try not to worry and just look forward to seeing your LO in a few weeks!

Because your belly was measuring a week behind? My belly is always measuring at least 2 weeks behind and my baby is in the 46th percentile. So everything with baby is right on track. Only u/s can tell for sure if baby is measuring behind or where baby is at.

Even with your doctor saying that I'd try hard not to worry. Mine said for ultrasound measurements at this point in pregnancy up to a week or two either way in size measurement is pretty normal and no need to worry unless you are have pre-term labor symptoms. Wait for the u/s, try hard not to worry to much for you an baby's sake, and remember women have done this for ages and will continue to do so. Do what your told and let your body work the rest. Best wishes for you and LO keep us updated.

My LO has been measuring a week behind (in u/s) since week 18. I go every four weeks to my high risk ob for an u/s to check on my cervix and they are just monitoring her growth to make sure she does not fall further behind. My regular ob doctor is not concerned at all and said that u/s measurements can be up to two weeks off this far in the pregnancy and has told me not to pay attention to the measurements unless she falls below two weeks. I hope this helps to ease your fears! Each baby will grow at different rates and like my doctor said to me, you may have a smaller sized baby. It is wonderful that you are eating healthy and exercising, that is best for you LO!

I am surprised your doctor is concerned over 1 week behind with the measurement of your uterus ( I thought typically they aren't really concerened unless you are about 4-6 weeks off). It doesn't hurt to get it checked out though. Yesterday my uterus was measuring 4 weeks behind which isn't a huge shock since we discoverd my baby was in the 6th percentile at my last growth scan and the one before that we were in the 10th percentile. I would try not to worry too much if the baby looked good at the 20 week scan. Hopefully everything looks great at the next one too :)

Last time my uterus measurements were always at least 2 weeks behind, sometimes 3. LO was 5lb, 4 oz when born at 36 weeks. So small but not abnormally so for a 36 weeker. She's just a small kid.

I'm measuring 2 weeks behind right now but my OB didn't indicate any concern. I'm surprised that they would do an U/S for measuring ONE week behind. I mean, it's not a precise science. I think they are being way overly careful.

I'm a small framed person and my belly has always measured at least a week behind, and toward the end it measured more like 3wks behind.

With this baby, I am seeing a high risk doc for my antibody issue and she actually IS measuring small which was confirmed by my targeted ultrasound (she is only in the 4th percentile). I didn't have this in-depth of an u/s with my regular OB with my 1st DD but I'm sure she wouldn't have measured much bigger. She was born weighing 6.5lbs at 40wks3days so my doc knows this baby is obviously not gonna be a big baby either. In other words, with DD#2 measuring only in the 4th percentile, they still think it's normal. We are just gonna keep a check on her to make sure she is getting bloodflow through the placenta and to her brain with weekly u/s's (MCA scans to be exact).

My friend was measuring a week behind early on and they moved her due date from November 8 to the 14th.  By the end she was measuring ahead so they moved it back....and she is being induced today.

I would not give this a second thought and am surprised the doctor would decide this from an outside feel anyway.

    Don't stress!

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013.  We love her to pieces.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011.  She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.

my belly measured a week behind yesterday at my appointment but when my dr did an ultrasound and measured baby crown to rump she was on target.....my LO is more inside me too and LOW so that could be why I measured a little small per the dr but she wasnt at all concerned..

One week difference isn't a big deal.  My MWs say as long as it is between two weeks of gestational age at this point it's no big deal.

At my 11 week appointment I was measuring 15 weeks.

    At 15 weeks I was 16 weeks.

    At 20 weeks I was 20.

This past week at 24 weeks I was 26.

Fundal measurements can also be innacurate.  I know that one of my midwives always measures me smaller than the other (they always compare what they get) and I think it's because she's worried about starting her measurement too low and accidentally touching me "down there".  Your doc could have just had the tape too high.
