gimmietimmies...5 pt. inexpensive booster?

My almost 3 year old rides in a Cosco Scenera in my MIL's car. She wants to get him a new seat soon. He has a little more than an inch of hard shell above his head, so he's still fine for now. He's also forward facing now, and I had heard that the Evenflo Maestro might just be the best bet as far as a 5 pt. inexpensive booster. It's around $80 most places that I look, and cheaper with a BRU 20% off coupon. We only paid $50 for the Scenera, so I didn't know if there was a recommended 5 pt. booster that is more around that price range, or am I just pushing my luck? I told her I would try to find out since he only rides in it a few times a week.

  • The Maestro is going to be the most inexpensive. However, I am pretty sure its outgrown by booster mode around the same time as the harness mode, so you will likely still need an inexpensive booster after.

The next seat would be the Evenflo Secure Kid and that will run you around $120 on amazon.com, followed by the Nautilus.

Ditto this. Unless you're in Canada. Then I'd go straight for the Nautilus. It goes on sale often and is pretty close in price to the Secure Kid. You could get the Maestro if you're in need now and on a tight budget, the 18" top harness height should last a while for most kids. I've heard the same as SCB, it's outgrown for harness and booster around the same time. So you'd have to shell out for a booster then anyway.
  • I would buy the Maestro now and just get an inexpensive high back booster when he's ready. The Maestro should last a few years. After that, the Graco TurboBooster fits most kids well, and you can find it for around 40.

ETA: The Maestro and Nautilus both have an 18" top harness slot. I don't think the Nautilus is worth the extra cost for an occasional use seat.

  • Thanks ladies! I'm going to try to go find a bangin' deal on a Maestro now...
