Weekly Bed Rest Check-in, Friday 11/2/12

(***I am posting this a little early because Nov. 2 is my son's 1st bday as well as the anniversary of his death. I'm not sure where I'll be emotionally so I may not be on the board. Wanted to make sure everybody was able to check in anyway.***)

Welcome to the Friday bedrest check-in. We are a weekly update and GTKY group on the high risk board. If you would like to participate, please post the following info:? ?

Due Date, team green/blue/pink with name if you want, type of bedrest, gestational age when you went on bedrest, why you went on bedrest, other high risk issues.??

News this week:

Yinyang124 had her twins!!! They were born on 10/25 at 34w2d: Damien Alexander at 9:25pm and Jace Zephyr at 9:31pm, both weighing 4lbs 10 oz and measuring 16.9 inches. Both boys are in the NICU. Damien is on a CPAP for difficulty breathing, but he's doing well otherwise. Jace just needs help regulating body temp. Mama is feeling really good, no pain and minimal bleeding. She was due 12/4 and was on modified, then strict bed rest since 23w3d for PTL and cervical dilation. Congrats, mama!! We will miss you on the check-ins but are so happy your boys arrived safely!

Starfish717 had her baby! Charlotte Rose was born on 10/25 at 37w. She was 5 lbs. 10 oz. and 18 in. She passed all her tests with flying colors! She was due 11/15. She was on strict bed rest since 29w6d for IC and had "graduated" from bed rest a few weeks ago. Congratulations on the birth of your little girl!

Saywhut82 had her baby! She was born 10/26 at 7 lbs. 11 oz. & 20 in and is healthy! She was due 11/10 and was on strict bed rest since 24w for IC/PTL, which was reduced to modified bed reset on 9/10, then put back on strict (after 4 brief days of freedom) due to edema and borderline Pre-E. You made it, mama! You give us hope!

Baby olsey graduated this week! She had her cerclage removed on 10/26 and is no longer on bed rest! She's due 11/14 and was on strict bed rest since 7/27 for incompetent cervix, then modified bed rest as of 10/1. Feel free to hang around with us still though! :)

Kiraliz is being induced! She started Cervadil tonight and will start pitocin tomorrow. She's due 11/21 and is team Blue. She's been on modified bed rest since 34w due to mild pre-e and severe edema. Good luck mama, keep us posted!

gumbygirl (Nicole)- Due 3/9/12, team Blue with twins! Strict bed rest at 20w due to preeclampsia.

I did some housekeeping this week and removed a few people who we have not heard from in over 4 weeks. If you notice that you've been removed and would like to be re-added, no problem! Simply re-post your info here. Just trying to keep our list up-to-date.

So, any updates? What's on your mind this week? How are you doing mentally/physically this week?

GTKY: We did this a while back, and it was kind of fun. Bed rest: how many weeks down/how many to go? (If you know). Also, if you are taking pills, injections, whatever and you have a rough count on those too, include that too. When you lay it all out this way it seems CRAZY but it's actually kind of encouraging to see everyone else's numbers and know you're not doing this alone.

  • Any updates? What's on your mind this week? How are you doing mentally/physically this week?

Had another good appt. on Tuesday, cervix measures 2.5. Less than 4 weeks til my cerclage comes out and bed rest ENDS! Physically I'm feeling pretty good other than some back pain which has kicked in this week.

Emotionally...that's another story. November 2nd is my son's bday as well as the anniversary of his death. I went into PTL on this day last year, at around 4 p.m. and my son was born less than 6 hours later. By the time I got to the hospital I was 4 cm dilated with a bulging bag and there was nothing they could do. He died during the delivery. It's been a very hard week and I imagine Friday is going to be even harder. I can't believe it's been year since I held my baby.

    GTKY:

18 weeks of bed rest down, 3 to go. 20 injections. 700 to 800 some-odd pills. 4 hospital visits (including one 1-week stay), 24 Dr. appts., 1 surgery. And I am STILL HERE!!!  Party!!!

    Geeeeshh. :
I've been quiet and just reading posts lately. These days I have had a lot of visitors so not much time to bump. This week has been good. Had an appointment yesterday and baby looks great at 6 pounds.

15 weeks and 5 days of bed rest down. 1 more day to go!!!!!!! I'm 36 weeks on Saturday so my strict bed rest restriction will end. But I'll keep myself on a somewhat modified bed rest scedhule until 37 weeks.

I've had roughly 25 drs appointments, 2 injections, around 250 pills. 5 hospital visits. Almost done!!!!!!

Weddedwife I'm really sorry for your loss and I truly hope you find comfort and strength in your family this weekend. Take it easy

  • Thinking of you today, Weddedwife... Praying you find a special way to honor your little boy.

So, any updates? What's on your mind this week? How are you doing mentally/physically this week?

I'm doing good this week. Wednesday and Thursday were rough (lonely) but overall it's been a good week. Had a great appointment yesterday and I am scheduled for a growth u/s on Monday! :)

GTKY: Bed rest: how many weeks down/how many to go? (If you know).

4 weeks down and 7 to go...

Also, if you are taking pills, injections, whatever and you have a rough count on those too, include that too.

I did 107 injections from March 17 through July 7th! We had a huge celebration on the day of the last injection. I did not keep track of the number of pills, but it had to be close to the number of injections...

    Appointments:

RE appointments-18 (only counting appointments related to the cycle that got me pregnant)

    OB appointments- 12

U/S-9 (so far... Monday will be #10)

    Trips to L&D-2

  • So, any updates? What's on your mind this week? How are you doing mentally/physically this week?

I ended up coming back to the hospital on Monday or Tuesday (can't remember which date now) for a really heavy bleed again. We're just going to take it day by day at this point. I'm still here for now and this is probably where I'll be for a long time - if not the duration.

Last night I started bleeding very heavily again and I'm still bleeding quite a bit. We're waiting on blood results to see if I'm going to need transfusion. Today, my doctor came in and said we were going to do an ultrasound and then he casually/jokingly said, "Hopefully we won't need to do the birthday thing today..."

Indifferent  Yes, please, let's NOT if possible! :::sweats:::

Assuming we do the c-section at 35 weeks, I've done 7 weeks of bed rest and less than 10 weeks to go.

I'm not doing much outside of the norm, but here's what I've taken/am taking:

    Betamethasone - 2 injections already

    PreNatals/B-Complex/DHA - daily

Ambian (FTW) - Can't sleep in the damn hospital

5 hospital visits - A total of 2 weeks stay so far (together) and I can't even count how many doctor's visits. At least 8-12 in the last 6 weeks.

  • Had ok appointments this week. Blood pressure was creeping up, nothing outrageous, but high 130's and 80's with occasional ventures ino 140's and 90's. Plus increased weight gain about 10lbs in 2weeks and constant headaches is making the doctor more concerned. At Monday's appointment they found increased protein too so yesterday I started a higher dose of medication and I am now scheduled for NSTs, 24 hour urine and BPPs everyweek. The doctor has only said we will take it appointment by appointment from here so hopefully everything will stay as is.

GTKY: 4 weeks of bedrests down, 4 weeks to go. 19 drs. Appts (twice weekly since bedrest), 2 injections, 50 pills or so, 4- 24 hour urine collections and 2 trips to L/D.

  • Thoughts & Prayers are with you weddedwife. Stay strong.

5 weeks total of bed rest, 17 weeks of "taking it easy" due to "cervical insufficiency", 2 betamethasone injections, a number of pills (nifedipine and zofran for hyperemesis), 4 hospital visits, too many OB appointments to count. If I make it to my due date, then I have 4 more appointments,  hopefully only 2 more weeks of "bed rest" (just in time for Thanksgiving). Getting there. 35 weeks, which means I've reached another goal. Though, since my hospital visit at 32 weeks with the magnesium, I started making my goals weekly goals to make myself feel more accomplished I guess.

Other than that, the nifedipine seems to be making me feel crappier this week. Been extremely nauseous (like I need more of this with already taking zofran regularly, ha ha), still contracting, more uterine irritability (random cramping), headaches and dizziness from the medication lowering my already normal blood pressure... I've been taking phenergan so I can sleep the last 2 nights. That's been helpful. Got a week break from the doctor. Hoping to make it to my birthday still pregnant (next weekend). We'll be celebrating my birthday this weekend, just in case. My dad is making enchiladas and a cake! Whoo. And my son, husband, and father will be setting up the Christmas tree at grandpa's house. I'll just be "supervising." I've started Christmas shopping for DS and DH, as I doubt I'll have much time to do so before the baby comes and I doubt I'll want to wrap anything once he's here.

  • Weddedwife you are in my thoughts today, you are such an amazingly strong woman!

Well.....failed my 1hr glucose today, lovely. Going to do the 2hr next week, but honestly I'm not too hopeful. But my cervix was a 4.3 so it's not all bad!

This question gives me a headache! Suffice it to say with 2 IVFs and 1 FET to get to this point, plus p17 shots, numerous pills, a cerclage, and a partridge in a pear tree, this pg has dealt me my blows. I would much rather focus on my baby girl coming instead so if I get the courage to do this again I won't be scared. Not to mention, I don't know if I can count that high!

  • On a side note: I wish pelvic rest was over already. It's driving me crazy. And I would really like to have sex BEFORE the baby pops out and I definitely can't for another 6 weeks, and probably won't feel like it for long afterwards.

I'm wondering if the doctor would approve of this at 36 weeks.... or if I'm supposed to wait until 37 weeks. I'm a little hesitant to ask. And I think if we did at 36 weeks and I went into labor... I might just not mention the "marital relations" that took place, lol!

  • This week went by quick; both NST apps went great. Baby is happy, blood pressure is good and no internal exams!

    Updates:

DH doesn't feel comfortable with me leaving our place without him, I feel like I'm still on bed rest.

I'm also a little upset about taking our LO to MI in March for her baptism, given the expense and time for us vs his parents. DHis very close to his family, he's unwilling to have the baptism in CO because his entire family is in MI!

Recently I have been more irrated than usual, I guess my hormones are prepping DH for my labor & delivery. Small things that I'd brush off now annoy me to no end.

GTKY: I was on bed rest for 15.5 weeks. My MFM gave me steroids(twice) and magnesium as a precaution if I went into preterm labor. Prior to conceiving I was diagnosed with high blood pressure my primary doctor put me on Nifedipine 60 mg, luckily it also prevents preterm contractions.

  • My update can be found under "Back in the Hospital and Staying"  ---- I didn't see the link for this at first!  Suffice it to say it has been a crazy few days!

    As for GTKY:

4 wks bed rest down. (do to unexpected PTL)

1 1/2 in hospital to go, followed by 2 more at home...

  • Crap, I replied to this yesterday, but my computer must have eaten my post :-(. Here it is again:

First, weddedwife--my thoughts were with you yesterday.

Update on me: not too much going on. I am really happy to have reached 34 weeks today! I had an ultrasound this week that went well. I just need both babies to stay in a little longer and keep growing as much as possible. I am starting to get really scared about my labor and delivery/c-section.

Regarding meds, I am taking an iron pill, a thyroid pill, a prenatal vitamin, a DHA pill, and lots of Tums every day. Most of these meds have to be taken at different times of day and some with or without food, so scheduling all of that has been interesting! I have crazy heartburn, but can't take Tums when I take some of my other meds, so I've been trying to find natural solutions (e.g. yogurt) instead.

    Twins November 2012!

  • GTKY: I went on modified bed rest at 25 weeks, so I've now been on bed rest for 9 weeks. My OB said that I can think about stopping the bed rest around 34-35 weeks. I think i am going to wait it out until 35 weeks (next week). At that point, I'll probably allow myself to go out to dinner with DH and get my hair cut, but will still try to rest as much as possible for most of the time.
    Twins November 2012!
