So I mentioned that my FIL was making a gate for the top of the stairs so the cat could get through but not the baby. They made one at their house when DH was a baby.
Anyway, e-mailed to let them know that I will need it by Thanksgiving as DD is already really close to crawling.
I get back an e-mail that says he will need some measurements and final thoughts.
What the heck?!?!?!?! What was all that measuring and talking with DH about last time he was here for then? Fun? Kicks and giggles?
FIL is always like this. Has to think and change his mind for 3 weeks before he does anything. He couldn't even figure out how to hang my mini-blinds. He sat down and read the directions and was like "I don't think this will work." I called him out on that one a bit rudely. I put up all the other blinds in my house and never once read the directions. Pretty self-explainatory. I just couldn't do the ones in DD's room because I had just had a c-section and standing on a ladder was ill-advised.
Leaning towards just getting a regular swing open gate and put it 3.5 inches off the ground so the cat can get under. Was avoiding that as I didn't want DD pushing her toys under and down the stairs. But may be easier than dealing with FIL.
(yes, I realize this is a stupid problem but it happens every, single time DH asks his dad for help on a project. Takes them 4 times as long.)
Update: Finally got a chance to talk to DH. He said to just get the gate I found that is actually under $20 and tell his dad not to bother. So I politely told his dad thanks for no thanks and will be ordering this one tomorrow. The plan is to just put it about 3.5" over the floor. That is the magic number. We measured the cat and then the baby's head. lol. Not the best gate out there but I can afford it, it will work, and I don't have to deal with my FIL. Of course, now my MIL is bugging me about Thanksgiving when I don't even know if DH will be back in time but whatever.

Re: quick vent...in-laws *update*
Your gate idea sounds like a good stop gap until the other one is made if ever.
JUST read your post then went over to Pinterest and look what was on my feed

(don't know how to make a clicky)
But how cute! it instantly reminded me of you lol
Interesting. I have some old closet doors I was trying to sell but I wonder if I can cut them down and paint them. Wonder if they would fit. How would I get a kitty door in without the baby getting stuck in it? hmmm.....

Yea...he was making one because they are so expensive. But honestly, my dad is a carpenter (FIL is not). He just never has time and DH wanted his dad to make it. I'm about to just make my own. Seriously, not that hard. FIL over thinks absolutely everything.
