Mother's Helper Questions

DH and I were talking last night how I might need a MH, especially if I have a CS.  I have somebody in mind but I want to make sure she really understands what she's getting into.  Or, if she says no after I give her a list I'd like to have a list to interview people with.
So, what kinds of questions did you ask a potential MH and what kinds of duties/responsibilities did you tell them they would have?  TIA!

Re: Mother's Helper Questions

  • This may not be too helpful since my kids were older, but here's my experience. ?I hired a mother's helper from craigslist when the babies were 14m old to help out for a couple of months until we moved across the country. ?I asked interviewees to talk about their childcare experience mostly, & I asked them about their lives too (career, hobbies, interests, etc.) to get a feel for what they're like. ?I also made sure they didn't smoke & had their own transportation. ?Honestly, if you're going to be home also, it's mostly a personality issue. ?Can you deal w/this person being in your house? ?In my ad, I listed duties as helping me take the kids to the park & playdates, meal preparation & feeding, light housework (sweeping the floor after meals, folding toddler laundry), & playing w/the babies. ?

  • Here is my craigslist ad:

Exhausted mom looking for an energetic, loving person to help care for adorable 14-month-old twins in my home.  Duties include helping mom take the kids to the appointments & playdates, preparing & feeding meals, light housework (sweeping the floor after meals, folding the kids' laundry, etc.), & of course, playing w/the kids!  I am looking for someone to help out 3 or 4 days per week for 3-4 morning hours each day. If interested shoot me an email. Willing to work with schedules. Thanks.

These are going to be my expectations and hopefully we can find someone that can assist. The issue I have is I need someone to be reliable because I'm going to have my 3rd baby soon, and I need someone after the holidays.
